JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
Provide individual and small group tutoring to students in the Gruskin Learning Center, located in the lower level of the Kelly library. Assist students in improving academic achievement by meeting with them on a regular basis to clarify learning problems and work on study skills. Other assistance might include:
+ Reviewing class material.
+ Discussing the text.
+ Predicting test questions.
+ Formulating ideas for papers.
+ Working on solution to problems.
+ Work with the student to identify learning styles and strengths and utilize these to facilitate independent learning.
+ Draw upon and make use of all resources available to the student including institutional facilities and assistive technology resources available to the student.
+ Maintaining communication with Learning Center Director Tracking usage of copies and requesting more as needed.
Tutoring is a supplement to classroom teaching. Tutors are not expected to know everything about the subject for which they tutor. Provide assistance to students with disabilities with assistive technology and book scanning. Assist learning center data with maintaining learning center data, and compile weekly, monthly, semester, and yearly reports.
Requirements and Qualifications
Education Qualification Experience
+ Master’s Degree Preferred
+ Knowledge of the nature of working with individuals with disabilities in higher education.
+ Must have the ability to communicate effectively with the disability coordinator as well as other faculty and staff.
+ Technologically savvy and able to troubleshoot problems.
+ Be organized and pro-active in keeping track of entries, and book scanning responsibilities Complete proficiency in Excel, and Knowledge of Access To have good interpersonal communication skills to build a rapport with students.
+ Have sensitivity and discretion with ODS material and knowledge to deliver support to students with learning difficulties, as well as disabled students
+ To prepare for each session with the student including preparing individualized resources in advance.
+ Become familiar with JAWS, KURZWEIL, and other assistive software to tutor students in area of expertise to order new books each semester.
+ Employment with the University for this job will require successful completion of the Pennsylvania (PA) Publicly Available Clearances: PA Child Abuse History Clearance, PA State Police Criminal Record Check, and the FBI Criminal History Background Check.
