Days (rotating weekends)
Under direct supervision will utilize medical, technical skills to provide support to the patient care team.
Assists in identifying patientsâ€™ problems, needs, and strengths. Assists in providing treatment plan to patient based on observations of patient behavior and provides input into discharge planning. Participates in implementing patientsâ€™ treatment plan by monitoring patientsâ€™ progress and communicates information regarding patient behavior to other members of the team. Detects and identifies unsafe environmental conditions or patient behaviors. Assists RN in organizing and executing actions under the Emergency Response Plan. Responds to emergency situations related to dangerous or potentially dangerous patient behaviors. Restores and maintains a safe and secure environment by implementing measures under Creating A Positive Environment (C.A.P.E.) or Nonviolent Crisis Intervention (NCI) including physical holds, carries, seclusion and restraints. Recognizes and reports adverse reactions to neroleptic medications including Extra Pyramidal Symptoms, Tardive Dyskinesia, and Neuroleptic Malignant Syndrome. Facilitates therapeutic activities and conducts patient/family teaching including unit/program orientation, goals group, and wrap-up groups. Assists patients in carrying out activities of daily living. Accompanies and transports patients. May assist with the training of other Psychiatric Technicians.
Physical Requirements (with or without accommodation):
Must be able to climb, kneel and stoop and perform assigned duties under semi-stressful conditions. Visual acuity is required in order to ensure that work is being done correctly. Required to lift and carry objects, including lifting patients. Position also involves considerable walking, standing, pushing and pulling of equipment.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of human behavior and/or principles of psychology. Ability to respond appropriately to emergency situations. Knowledge of C.A.P.E. or NCI. Ability to recognize and respond to adverse drug reactions. Ability to work effectively in stressful situations. Ability to work with others as a team to ensure quality patient care. Basic knowledge of computer systems. Good interpersonal skills.
*Experience: Two (2) years experience in a mental healthcare setting performing similar duties.
* Education: Bachelorâ€™s Degree in Psychology or related field.
