Radiology Technologist/PACS Coordinator

RESPONSIBILITIES

PERFORMANCE STANDARD

Follows established protocols and proficient with the performance of the following PACS duties:

Process/prepares/adds/ deletes users on server; granting appropriate permission; changing users profiles; maintains appropriate documentation for all PACS users; conducts PACS training and instruction for new, beginner, intermediate and advanced users; Manages all computer systems for Imaging Services and the Breast Center, including new system selection and system implementation using project management techniques and tools.

Monitors unmatched studies; reviews new status studies weekly; conducts patient merge; study re-allocation; edit patient information; Indepth administrative and analyst knowledge of PACS; Indepth administrative and analyst knowledge of MRS computer system; Working knowledge of Teleradiology computer system; Working knowledge of UltiPro computer system; Working knowledge of CPSI comptuer system; Working knowledge of Microsoft Office software;

Participates in vendor training for quality control / quality assurance; developing and implementing QC programs to assure effective functioning and maintenance of the PACS system; daily system monitoring of scheduled back-up, archival software, event log and resolution to unknown errors; Participates in evaluation and implementation of new software and systems; Maintains expertise and competence in all department computer systems to assure smooth daily operations; Responsible for testing all new equipment, software, upgrades and interfaces for Imaging Services prior to implementation; Responsible for assuring that all interfaces related to Imaging Services are working correctly from the Imaging Services perspective; Responsible for daily trouble shooting and problem solving for all department computer systems.

Coordinates installation of updates from vendor; assists vendor with installation and set-up of new equipment; plans and coordinates necessary software and hardware upgrades; analyzes and notifies vendor of hardware / software problems; able to restore data from back-up; analyzes and works with vendor to resolve modality communication problems; develops and implements policies and procedures pertaining to PACS; provides regular report to Radiology Administration and Information Systems; Works in coordination with Information Systems for daily operations, trouble shooting, network issues and implementation of new technology in Imaging Services; Provides Director with sound advice, reports as required and information regarding new technology, PACS, Computed Radiography, Teleradiology; Attends all appropriate meetings for information, evaluation and implementation of new technology, PACS, CR implementation, and Teleradiology.

Demonstrates and works within departmental guidelines and completes assigned tasks on time and in an accurate manner as well as:

Shows willingness to train new employees with Radiology systems, scheduling, tasks, and/or job assignments; Works effectively as part of the team and helps coworkers when necessary (aid in transporting, run films, make jackets, helps cover positions left vacated for lunches, etc.); Monitors and ensures that staff performs all tasks and assignments according to established protocols, including proper documentation.

Sets workflow plans and appropriate workload distribution which adheres to priorities outlined by management; independently assigns work and/or tasks (purging, filing etc) to accommodate departmental requirements and productivity standards; Supervises and maintains working knowledge of daily assignments/tasks for other employees as well as equipment , supplies , and machines needed in the performance of duties; Reports, resolves and follows up any problems in the department independently.

Meets the above criteria and demonstrates effectiveness in assuming responsibilities for the daily / nightly operations; directs the maintenance of departmental facilities and equipment; recognizes and organizes immediate staff requirements by activating the on-call personnel and radiologist as needed 3to ensure the safety of the patients and the efficiency of the staff.

Professional Conduct.

Adheres to service excellence standards; has read and comprehended the hospitals Standards of Conduct; and in compliance with Ethics Program. Follows proper telephone etiquette and communications standards. Also:

Motivates staff in a positive manner; maintains a professional appearance and projects a positive professional attitude; wears hospital badge at all times.

Observes and monitors the staff to ensure their compliance with the confidentiality and dignity of the patient and their records at all times; provides privacy when communicating with patient and/or staff.

Demonstrates a proactive attitude and effectiveness in assisting staff with solving job-related problems. Effectively functions as liaison with nursing, medical staff, etc; promotes harmonious intra and interdepartmental cooperation. Handles difficult situations without management assistance; Keeps appropriate personnel informed at all times, offers prompt explanations for any delays and keeps waiting patients updated every fifteen minutes.

Equipment Use / Preventive Maintenance and Quality Assurance / Supplies

Ensures availability of supplies (restock) and equipment for diagnostic rooms to support activities and/or exams daily.

Ensures proper care of all equipment and schedules regular surface cleaning sessions for all units in the office.

Ensures special order supplies (xerox paper, pens, forms etc.) are stocked for entire department; demonstrates effectiveness in assisting staff with equipment malfunctions, alternative patient positioning or different views, and the realization of equipment and patient limitations.

Meets the above criteria as well as partake in daily QA/QI functions(Monthly Processor QA, Weekly Fluoroscopic Check, Lead Apron Log, Mammography QA / QI, etc.)

Performance Standards.

Employee has the willingness and ability to perform additional duties and responsibilities in different areas of the department on an as needed basis; follows established hospital and departmental policies with minimal complaints and/or Record of Conferences:

Interacts with coworkers and patients in a professional and courteous manner; greets all patients with a smile, introduces themselves and explains the procedure

Works within departmental guidelines and completes assigned task on time and in an accurate manner with minimal assistance

Attendance / Punctuality

Employee provides proper notification and advance notice for absence; Employee is consistently on time and ready to work at the start of the shift. Employee returns from break in a timely manner and avoids leaving early.

Professional Growth and Development/ Education and Licensure

Attends in-service workshops / departmental meetings routinely

Meets above criteria and attends two seminars (in a twelve month period) in order to improve knowledge base and implement those findings to improve our daily service; Attends vendor related meetings to obtain additional information; Attends additional vendor training meetings, as needed

Emergency Protocol

Employee comprehends and can demonstrate knowledge of hospitals Emergency Plan including:

Knowledge of Codes and their representation.

Knowledge and demonstration of Emergency Phone System, Knowledge of Material Data Sheets, Infection Control Manual, and methods for reporting hazardous conditions, work related injuries and illness programs.

Meets the above Criteria as well as maintains daily checks of Crash Cart.

Ability to supervise department in case of Code Triage.

Qualifications:

A. Minimum Education Bachelor’s Degree Preferred / Basic computer skills relating to networking, operating systems, security levels, and web browsers; Medical terminology;

B. Minimum Experience skills in imaging basics; one year experience in the following: Radiology operational procedures, imaging characteristics, Radiology qa/qc programs; 5+ years of PACS knowledge /training preferred
