Facilities Mechanic

**Job Description**

Performs maintenance and repair of the facility`s structure, equipment and grounds. Work will include a heavy focus on commercial carpentry. Work may include plumbing, electrical, HVAC, locksmithing and painting. Works with manufacturing or process engineering in the installation or repair of building plumbing and wiring as required. Makes periodic or special inspections to determine necessary repair work. Works from blueprints, drawings or rough sketches. With two locations grossing approximately 374KSF in Wayne and Totowa, NJ, the selected individual will be reporting into the Supervisor of Facilities where he or she will be working alongside a group of skilled tradespersons tasked with the maintenance and repair of building systems spanning across various space types (Engineering and environmental labs, manufacturing floors, office space, electrical and mechanical rooms, etc.). The individual will be an addition to a growing team of Plant Engineering professionals that report into the Manager of Facilities. The NJ Facilities Management team is a heavily relied upon support function accommodating approximately 800 employees and is responsible for the following: #FAC

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:

+ Installs and maintains a wide variety of pumps, blowers, motors, and other mechanical equipment such as HVAC systems.

+ Assembles and repairs mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) systems.

+ Performs a wide variety of carpentry, plumbing, and light electrical work.

+ Executes routine preventive maintenance to ensure that building systems continue to run effectively and efficiently.

+ Works from written instructions as well as verbal instructions.

+ Follows all applicable safety rules and procedures.

+ Works from blueprints, equipment drawings and schematics, manufacturers' specifications and literature. Plans complex jobs, selects materials and equipment for proper completion.

+ Performs work according to standard procedure and by building's operational schedule.

+ Utilizes computerized preventive maintenance schedule. Records and logs work performed such as date or problem, explanation of problem, what was replaced and/or repaired on the controls and components of each system.

+ Repairs or replaces defective equipment parts using hand tools and power tools.

+ May be required to clean and service equipment that may contain hazardous substances and to participate in the sorting and accumulation of hazardous waste materials in accordance with federal, state and local regulations.

+ Operates forklift to move materials and equipment.

+ May be required to participate on special teams, including but not limited to snow removal, emergency response and must be responsive to off-hour emergencies.

+ Performs other duties and responsibilities as required.

**Required Education, Experience, & Skills**

+ High School or Trade School diploma or its equivalent and at least three (3) years of general maintenance experience.

+ Ability to walk, bend, stoop, balance, crawl and reach for extended periods of time.

+ Lift 35 pounds. Must be comfortable with and capable of occasionally working at heights, indoors as well as outdoor work in varying temperatures and weather.

+ Work independently without direct supervision.

**Preferred Education, Experience, & Skills**

+ Knowledge of Maximo or other CMMS software and MS Office suites.

+ Ability to acquire a government clearance.

+ Strong background in commercial carpentry with working knowledge of:

+ Suspended ceiling system installation and repair

+ Framing and finishing walls (sheetrock, tape, joint compound and paint)

+ Framing and installation of commercial doors and associated hardware locksmithing

+ Modular cubicle/furniture systems

+ Commercial flooring systems installation and repair

**Pay Information**

Full-Time Salary Range: $62530 - $100048

However, individual salaries are determined by a variety of factors including, but not limited to: business considerations, local market conditions, and internal equity, as well as candidate qualifications, such as skills, education, and experience.
