z/OS Systems Programmer

CTG is seeking an experienced z/OS Systems Programmer to support enterprise mainframe environments across production, development, and test. This role focuses on SMP/E installations, core z/OS infrastructure, and maintaining stability across critical systems.

**Location: Remote**

**Duration: 5 months, with potential for extension or hire**

**Overview:**

This role focuses on SMP/E installations, core z/OS infrastructure, and maintaining stability across critical systems.

If you’re strong with SMP/E and comfortable owning software installs, maintenance, and troubleshooting in a Sysplex environment, this will feel like home.

**Primary Responsibilities:**

+ Install, upgrade, and maintain mainframe software using SMP/E and z/OSMF

+ Apply PTFs/APARs and manage zones across environments

+ Support key ISV tools (CA7, CA11, Datacom, Abend Aid, Xpediter, Syncsort, and more)

+ Troubleshoot abends and analyze dumps

+ Support IPL processes, automation (OPS/MVS), and system migrations

+ Monitor performance using SMF, RMF, and related tools

+ Participate in disaster recovery exercises and a rotating on-call schedule

**Education and Experience Required:**

+ 5+ years as a z/OS Systems Programmer

+ Strong SMP/E expertise

+ Experience with JCL, REXX, CLIST, DFSMS, DFDSS

+ Knowledge of Parallel Sysplex and core z/OS architecture

+ Experience with RACF or ACF2

+ Strong troubleshooting and documentation skills

**Nice to have: CICS, DB2, USS/zFS, GDPS, CA7/CA11, IPCS, SDSF.

**Education and Experience Preferred:**

+ Bachelors degree in technology-related field.

+ Combined minimum of 10 years higher education and/or related work experience.

+ Certifications or special training in Related Technologies.

Excellent verbal and written English communication skills and the ability to interact professionally with a diverse group are required.

The expected base salary for this position ranges from $29.90 to $49.84 hourly. Salary offers are based on a wide range of factors including relevant skills, training, experience, education, market factors, and where applicable, licensure or certifications obtained. In addition to salary, a competitive benefit package is also offered.
