Machining Estimator

Now Hiring: Machining Estimator | $32–$34/hr | 1st Shift

Are you an experienced CNC Machinist ready to transition into an office-based role? This is an opportunity to use your machining knowledge to estimate jobs, develop customer quotes, and help determine the best way to manufacture each part.

The Advance Group is currently seeking a Machining Estimator for a small machine shop. The ideal candidate will have previous machining experience, strong knowledge of CNC equipment and manufacturing processes, and the ability to read prints and determine how a part should be produced.

Job Duties for the Machining Estimator:

  • Review customer drawings, diagrams, and prints to understand part requirements
  • Determine the materials needed to manufacture each part
  • Calculate the number of pieces required for each order
  • Estimate production times and determine how long jobs will take to complete
  • Determine which machines and equipment are best suited for each job
  • Use machining knowledge to develop accurate customer quotes
  • Enter purchase orders and job information into the ERP system when orders are received
  • Order materials needed for production
  • Work closely with the manufacturing team to ensure quotes are realistic and accurate
  • Primarily work at a desk and computer while using hands-on machining knowledge to support estimating decisions

Requirements for the Machining Estimator:

  • Previous machining experience is required
  • Experience with both CNC turning centers and machining centers is highly preferred
  • Strong understanding of CNC machining processes and machine capabilities
  • Ability to read and understand blueprints, customer prints, and technical drawings
  • Knowledge of machining materials, tooling, components, and production processes
  • Ability to determine appropriate machines, materials, quantities, and estimated production times
  • Computer skills required
  • ERP system experience is a plus
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy
  • Strong communication and problem-solving skills
  • Must be able to read, write, and perform basic arithmetic
  • Good attitude and ability to work as part of a team
  • Must be comfortable transitioning between computer-based work and the manufacturing environment
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. Occasionally may need to lift up to 75 lbs.; team lifting or machine assistance can be used if needed

Shift for the Machining Estimator:

  • Monday–Friday, 7:00 AM–3:30 PM
  • Voluntary overtime may be available 

Pay for the Machining Estimator:

  • $32–$34/hour, depending on experience and skill level
  • Weekly pay
  • Annual performance reviews
  • Additional raises may be provided when an employee's skill level exceeds their current pay rate
