Job Summary:
Pharmacy technician role is filling prescriptions in an automated robotic environment providing mail order services for KPMAS and central fill services for KP outpatient pharmacies.
Essential Responsibilities:
+ Provides day-to-day work oversight of the Optifill system, workflow distribution, reporting, subject matter expertise, and troubleshooting to ensure the highest levels of patient service are met daily. Review work queues to ensure timely filling of all prescriptions. Report variances to normal as needed to management. Provide accurate prescription fulfillment with manual processes and automated systems.
+ Proactively participate in maintaining accurate records and maintain current knowledge of pharmacy rules and government LAWS and regulations; ensure compliance at all times. Actively assist in all aspects of the fulfillment area to ensure all work is completed by the end of the day. Perform minor mechanical troubleshooting tasks. Cleaning and maintenance of pharmacy automation equipment as may be required. Canister maintenance, calibration, and filling. Proactively assist in maintaining the cleanliness and orderliness of the pharmacy.Works with multiple computer applications within the organization and department such as: pharmacy information management, member information management, point of sale programs, Windows-based programs, outside vendor applications and Internet navigation/programs. Greets members over the telephone, verifies members eligibility status, and receives prescriptions from members for pharmaceuticals. Enters prescription order information into computer system and prints labels for use by pharmacist. Receives payment according to terms of members plan. Selects requested drugs from Optifill or counts drugs from pharmacy shelf. Prepares various topical compound prescriptions by mixing prescribed dosages. Attaches labels to container for review by pharmacist. Answers routine inquiries from members regarding health plan drug coverage, prices, and related issues. Identifies situations when patient should speak with pharmacist regarding use of drugs and asks pharmacist to speak to member. Orders and stocks drugs and supplies, performs other inventory duties as needed.
+ Proactively update management on staffing, team status, operational bottlenecks, or any other issues requiring management awareness.
+ Assist with quality improvement initiatives as requested by management.
+ Participate in meetings with pharmacy operations management.
+ Performs other related duties and training as directed.
Basic Qualifications:
Experience
+ Minimum one (1) year of experience as a Pharmacy Technician II required.
+ Per the National Agreement, current KP Coalition employees have this experience requirement waived.
Education
+ High School Diploma or General Education Development (GED) required.
License, Certification, Registration
+ Pharmacy Technician License (Virginia)
+ Pharmacy Technician Certificate
Additional Requirements:
+ Have an understanding of the entire filling process from order entry to manifesting.
+ Have time management skills.
+ Must be willing to participate in high volume, fast pace environment with focus on quality and accuracy.
+ Have Basic understanding of the dispensing automation equipment.
+ Knowledge of medical terminology, generic drug names, pharmaceutical calculations, and ability to assume responsibility for coordinating drug inventory control.
+ Proficiency in the use of applicable computer software.
+ Effective interpersonal and communication skills.
+ Must be able to work in a Labor/Management Partnership environment.
