Summary

The Maintenance Intern is responsible for utilizing what they have learned in the classroom setting and applying it while working in the shop. Training will consist of basic shop procedures emphasizing safety, using shop equipment, preventive maintenance, basic repairs, and troubleshooting techniques. Online training courses will be available and most work will be completed while working directly with the trainer or a designated qualified mechanic.

Education and Experience

+ Currently enrolled in an accredited diesel and/or body shop program.

+ Working Knowledge of DOT regulations and Out of Service parameters for tractors, trailers, and accessorial equipment.

+ Working knowledge of tractor/trailer maintenance and diagnostic software.

+ 609 air conditioning certifications preferred and/or able to obtain.

+ A valid driver's license, Commercial Driver's License (CDL) is preferred but not required.

+ Must be able to operate all related shop equipment.

+ DOT certification is preferred but not required.

+ A firm understanding of basic computer operations.

+ Good decision-making, problem-solving, attention to detail, and customer service skills.

+ Basic electrical troubleshooting skills.

+ Ability to read installation manuals and understand manufacturer training.

+ Working knowledge of procedures for handling and disposal of hazardous waste materials.

+ Understands and consistently performs in accordance with ATS Mission, Vision, and Values.

+ Must be able to demonstrate a proactive commitment to ATS corporate values and the success of all staff.

+ Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and Outlook) required.

+ Excellent communication skills (written, listening and verbal).

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

+ Perform inspections on company tractors and/or trailers using ATS, DOT, and OSHA guidelines to ensure that the tractors are operating safely.

+ Move tractors and trailers in and out of the shop for maintenance.

+ Performs repairs following ATS procedures within standard job times.

+ Performs all necessary and scheduled preventative maintenance services e.g., oil and grease, air filters, cooling system nitrate, water filters, etc.

+ Inspects and performs basic trailer maintenance including tire condition and air pressure, brakes, lights, and safety equipment, and submits reports indicating condition of equipment.

+ Performs shop clean-up and housekeeping responsibilities as well as other miscellaneous related duties as assigned.

+ Participate in online OEM training such as After Market Resource (ARC) from Freightliner and hands on training provided by OEM and Factory.

+ Open repair orders and charge out all parts used on trucks and trailers.

+ Document work order details within the Company's CMMS program.

+ Follow all ATS and department policies and procedures.

+ Always wear all required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and ensure safety procedures are implemented and followed.

+ Must meet productivity standards, department objectives and deadlines.

+ Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Constantly positioning self under, on top of, or in awkward positions to work on equipment.

Frequently moving about to obtain tools, supplies, parts and inspecting equipment.

Constantly uses hand tools and power hand tools to repair equipment, manipulate parts into position or enter data into computer.

Constantly inspecting and assessing equipment to determine whether to replace or repair and the best approach to replacing/repair.

Intermittently communicate with others regarding work questions, processes, procedures, and timelines.

Must be able to move/position parts, tools equipment:

+ From 1 to 10 lbs. Frequently

+ From 11 to 25 lbs. frequently

+ From 25 to 50 lbs. occasionally

+ Over 50 lbs. occasionally

Exposure to:

+ Loud noises constantly require hearing protection.

+ Temperature extremes intermittently due to outside weather conditions.

+ Dirt, dust, grease, chemicals, and odors constantly.

+ Situations requiring eye protection and steel toed boots and when welding, an approved shield.

Compensation & Benefits:

· The anticipated hourly pay range for this position is between $20.50 - $21.50 plus $4/hr. 2nd shift differential. Hourly pay rate offered is determined by relevant experience, education, certifications, and geographic location as compared to others doing substantially similar work. In addition to the hourly rate of pay, employees may be eligible for performance-based incentives, which can vary depending on individual and/or company performance.
