**Summary:**
Meta is seeking a Software Development Engineer in Test to drive quality and reliability across large-scale software systems. In this role, you will design and build sophisticated test infrastructure, automated testing frameworks, and validation pipelines that enable engineering teams to ship high-quality software with confidence. You will partner closely with product and infrastructure engineers to define testability requirements, identify systemic quality gaps, and establish testing strategies that scale across complex, distributed systems. This role sits at the intersection of software engineering and quality assurance, requiring deep technical expertise in test architecture, automation, and reliability engineering.
**Required Skills:**
Software Development Engineer in Test Responsibilities:
1. Design and implement scalable automated test frameworks, test harnesses, and validation infrastructure for large-scale distributed systems
2. Define and drive end-to-end testing strategies including unit, integration, system, regression, and performance testing across multiple product areas
3. Collaborate with product and infrastructure engineers to embed testability requirements early in the software design and development lifecycle
4. Develop tooling and pipelines to improve test coverage, test execution speed, and signal quality across CI/CD workflows
5. Identify systemic quality gaps through root cause analysis of failures, flaky tests, and production incidents, and drive resolution across teams
6. Establish and evangelize testing best practices, coding standards, and quality engineering patterns for the broader engineering organization
7. Lead technical design reviews for test infrastructure components, providing guidance to peers on architecture and implementation tradeoffs
8. Build observability and reporting systems to surface test health metrics, coverage trends, and reliability signals to engineering leadership
9. Partner with cross-functional teams to define quality gates and release criteria that balance velocity with production reliability
**Minimum Qualifications:**
Minimum Qualifications:
10. Experience designing and building automated test frameworks and infrastructure for large-scale or distributed software systems
11. 6+ years of experience in software development engineering in test, test automation, or quality engineering roles
12. Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, relevant technical field, or equivalent practical experience
13. Experience with performance, load, or reliability testing methodologies and tooling
14. Experience identifying root causes of test failures and production defects through systematic debugging and analysis
15. Experience influencing engineering decisions through written technical proposals and cross-functional stakeholder alignment
**Preferred Qualifications:**
Preferred Qualifications:
16. Familiarity with chaos engineering, fault injection, or adversarial testing techniques to validate system resilience
17. Demonstrated ability to integrate AI tools to optimize/redesign workflows and drive measurable impact (e.g., efficiency gains, quality improvements)
18. Demonstrated ongoing AI skill development (e.g., prompt/context engineering, agent orchestration) and staying current with emerging AI technologies
19. Experience integrating automated testing into CI/CD pipelines and defining quality gates for staged rollout processes
20. Proficiency in one or more programming languages such as Python, Java, C++, or Hack, applied specifically to test framework development
21. Experience building test infrastructure for systems with high concurrency, low latency requirements, or complex distributed architectures
22. Experience adhering to and implementing responsible, ethical AI practices (e.g., risk assessment, bias mitigation, quality and accuracy reviews)
**Public Compensation:**
$146,000/year to $203,000/year + bonus + equity + benefits
**Industry:** Internet
