As an Advanced R&D Optical Scientist/Engineer here at Honeywell, you will contribute to the development of cutting-edge sensing technologies utilizing optical methods. With your strong knowledge of optical science and hands-on experience with laboratory experimentation, you will play a critical role in shaping the future of Honeywell as a global technology leader. Your expertise will drive innovation and deliver novel sensing solutions that improve the quality of life for people around the world. You will report to our Director of Advanced Technologies, and you'll work out of our Richardson, Texas location. In this role, you will impact the company's success and growth by leading and driving the development of optical technologies, collaborating with cross-functional teams to define optical requirements and specifications, designing and developing complex optical systems, and performing optical experimentation and simulations to enable new product concepts.
• Apply previous experience in optical physics to design, model, develop, and integrate chip-scale photonics into novel optical sensors
• Design, develop, and experimentally test complex optical systems, components, assemblies, and prototypes in a laboratory setting
• Generate intellectual property (IP) and contribute to patent applications
• Evaluate emerging technologies for their applicability to current and future projects
• Support the transfer of technology from R&D to New Product Development teams
• Identify, assess, and mitigate technical and project-related risks
• Collaborate with global cross-functional teams
**YOU MUST HAVE**
• Master’s degree in Optics, Photonics, Physics, Engineering, or related field
• 2+ years R&D experience or academic research experience in at least one of the following areas: integrated optics, Lumerical design and modelling for photonics waveguides, or chip-scale photonics
• Strong knowledge of spectroscopy and related methods
• Experience with design, setup, and operation of laboratory experiments and related equipment
• Excellent problem-solving, analytical, communication, and collaboration skills
**WE VALUE**
• Ph.D. degree in Optics, Photonics, Physics, Engineering, or related field
• Proficiency in one or more of the following fields and/or skills: Integrated photonics, Nonlinear optics, Optical modeling (e.g. Zemax), Micro-optics, Stabilized laser systems, Design and analysis with multi-physics analysis tools, Fiber optics, Silicon nitride thin-film waveguides, Semiconductor fabrication technology applied to thin-film optical components
• Proven track record of technical leadership and project management
• Knowledge of frequency combs, imaging, and/or holography
• Demonstrated ability to drive technology commercialization is a plus
• Broad software toolbox for data acquisition, data analysis, design, modeling, and/or simulation
• Passion for innovation and continuous learning
• Attention to detail
