Senior Software Engineer

Azure Storage team is chartered with building and operating the persistent storage for the entire Microsoft Azure cloud! Azure Storage consists of a platform which currently powers six different storage services – Files, Disks, Blobs, Data Lake, Tables, and Queues.

As a Senior Software Engineer in the Azure Storage team, you will design, implement, and optimize Azure Storage Buildout Services and Workflows that can scale up to support exabytes of storage, and provide world-class reliability, performance, and security. **Responsibilities**

+ Your responsibilities will include developing features to improve performance and scale targets of Azure Storage services. You will work together with a world class, collaborative team of software engineers building software using agile methodologies and DevOps to run live site for the service.

+ You will have a platform to learn and research technologies, propose solutions, evaluate multiple design options, make recommendations and decisions, and work cross-group with our partners to build world class end to end solutions that will delight our customers.

+ You need to be passionate about technology, innovation and creating distributed cloud platform services and enterprise-grade software, as well as working on new features in a relatively new and fast paced product development environment.

+ You will work to identify dependencies and develop design documents for a product, application, service, or platform.

+ You will collaborate with appropriate stakeholders to determine user requirements for a scenario.

+ You will create, implement, optimize, debug, refactor, and reuse code to establish and improve performance and maintainability, effectiveness, and return on investment (ROI).

+ You will act as a Designated Responsible Individual (DRI) by developing and following the playbook, working on call to monitor system/product/service for degradation, downtime, or interruptions, alerting stakeholders about status and initiates actions to restore system/product/service for simple and complex problems when appropriate.

**Qualifications**

**Required Qualifications:**

+ Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 4+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python

+ OR equivalent experience.

**Other Requirements:**

+ Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings: 

+ Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud Background Check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

**Preferred Qualifications:**

+ Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science

+ OR related technical field AND 8+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python

+ OR Master's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 6+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python

+ OR equivalent experience.

+ Experience in development of storage and file systems and experience in development of cloud services and distributed systems

+ Multi-year native C/C++ code development skills

+ Experience with debugging tools like WinDBG, Wireshark etc.

+ Windows or Linux operating system knowledge

Software Engineering IC4 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $112,000 - $218,400 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $145,800 - $238,600 per year.
