Audio Electrical Engineer

**Summary:**

Meta's Reality Labs Hardware team is seeking an Audio Electrical Engineer to design and deliver high-performance audio electronics for next-generation wearables, including smart glasses, AR glasses, VR headsets, and wearables. In this role, you will own the electrical architecture and circuit design of audio subsystems—spanning microphone arrays, speaker drivers, amplifiers, and analog front-end circuits—from early concept through mass production. You will work at the intersection of acoustics, analog and mixed-signal electronics, algorithms, and embedded audio systems to shape the audio experience on devices worn by millions of users worldwide.

**Required Skills:**

Audio Electrical Engineer Responsibilities:

1. Debug all circuits for audio chain (including codecs, embedded DSPs, headphone amps, speaker amps and microphones) as well as external circuits pertaining to audio chain (including PMIC, buck/boost converters, switches)

2. Understand electrical performance targets using data driven design goals and how they impact system performance

3. Primary cross functional interface with PD/ID/System EE/MTE/SWE

4. Define electrical performance targets using literature and data-driven design goals for end product

5. Debugging of full audio system (ie render, capture, power consumption, power delivery, tuning, algorithms)

6. Product factory test design, specification, and implementation

7. Collaboration with internal/external specialized HW teams (System EE, Power/Battery)

8. Collaboration with internal/external SW teams including Audio System Bring Up and Debug

9. Create product factory test specifications

**Minimum Qualifications:**

Minimum Qualifications:

10. BS in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Physics, or equivalent experience

11. 6+ years of experience focused around audio system design, influencing cross-functional teams and leadership for the improvement of audio

12. Proficient in designing and debugging Analog and Digital circuits

13. Experience in designing circuits for audio chain (including codecs, embedded DSPs, headphone amplifiers, speaker amplifiers, MEMs microphones, and power supplies)

14. Product development utilizing: SPICE simulation (filter design, frequency analysis, transient analysis), Audio Precision, Power Supplies, Oscilloscope, OrCAD or Cadence or similar schematic capture and PCB layout tool

15. Experience with PCBA and product level failure modes (production and field)

16. Experience designing low-power audio electronics for wearable or hearable devices with tight size and power constraints

**Preferred Qualifications:**

Preferred Qualifications:

17. Experience with Qualcomm audio debugging tools (QXDM, QACT, AudioReach)

18. M.S. in Electrical Engineering or Physics

19. Familiarity with EMI mitigation strategies and regulatory compliance testing for audio hardware in consumer electronics

20. Experience with audio codec configuration, I2S or SoundWire digital audio interfaces, and embedded audio signal chains

21. Experience with Android debugging tools (adb)

22. Experience in audio speech quality testing, optimization, and tuning (using B&K or ACQUA)

23. Understanding of transistor level IC design and silicon manufacturing process

24. Understanding of design, testing, algorithm prototyping as well as algorithm and audio chain prototyping and demos

25. Experience in transducer design (speakers, microphones, MEMs, etc.) and acoustic test development (lab, factory)

26. Personal project experience with: Loudspeaker building, audio hobbyist, musician/production/recording, instrument design, or something completely unexpected (flying go-kart, homemade CNC, laundry folding machine, etc.)

**Public Compensation:**

$144,000/year to $204,000/year + bonus + equity + benefits

**Industry:** Internet
