Security Engineer, Nation State

**Summary:**

Meta Security is looking for an experienced Security Engineer to join our Nation State leadership team. You will be working across security and engineering teams to drive strategy, influence stakeholders, and develop detection and response automation leveraging both industry-standard and custom detection and response platforms. You’ll also work alongside Security Engineers and Analysts to identify critical assets and TTPs, assess the top risks, and evaluate potential attacks against Meta systems.

**Required Skills:**

Security Engineer, Nation State Responsibilities:

1. Proactively identify and prioritize areas of risk across the company

2. Lead major cross-company workstreams to deploy capabilities from multiple security teams to mitigate this risk

3. Apply domain expertise and an attacker's mindset to lead cross-functional initiatives aimed at strengthening incident detection and response capabilities for complex threats

4. Perform TTP-based threat modeling for a wide variety of assets, including endpoints, mobile, servers, internal services, public and private cloud environments, and networking equipment

5. Review the security architecture of large-scale custom and commercial systems, and independently propose logging, detection, and prevention controls

6. Work with policy and legal teams to strengthen our standards and our governance

7. Build response workflows and actions that auto-resolve false positives and provide context, scaling our ability to investigate

8. Influence asset-owning teams and their leadership across Meta to adopt appropriate access control designs and operational processes

9. Support security incident response in a cross-functional environment and drive incident resolution

10. Build logging pipelines using our custom datasets and infrastructure

**Minimum Qualifications:**

11. Understanding of how to manage security risks in a fast-moving environment

12. 10+ years of experience in offensive or defensive cyber operations, detection and response engineering, or a similar security engineering role

13. Experience in communicating and influencing across functions to drive solutions

14. Experience delivering executive-level security strategies

15. Engineering experience and the capacity to understand and reason about complex technical systems

16. Experience designing systems used for responding to both external and insider threats

17. B.S. in Computer Science or relevant field, or equivalent work experience

18. Demonstrated ability to integrate AI tools to optimize/redesign workflows and drive measurable impact (e.g., efficiency gains, quality improvements)

19. Experience adhering to and implementing responsible, ethical AI practices (e.g., risk assessment, bias mitigation, quality and accuracy reviews)

20. Demonstrated ongoing AI skill development (e.g., prompt/context engineering, agent orchestration) and staying current with emerging AI technologies

21. Experience operating as a technical leader in a high-performance and high-trust security engineering team

22. Experience adhering to and implementing responsible, ethical AI practices (e.g., risk assessment, bias mitigation, quality and accuracy reviews)

23. Demonstrated ability to integrate AI tools to optimize/redesign workflows and drive measurable impact (e.g., efficiency gains, quality improvements)

24. Experience in threat hunting, including leveraging intelligence data to proactively identify and investigate suspicious behavior across networks and systems

25. Background in security-focused software engineering, designing large-scale systems and data pipelines, and offensive security

26. Broad knowledge across the Security domain, as well as deep focus in one (or more) areas such as logs and events processing, offensive or defensive security, or detection and/or response tooling development

27. Demonstrated ongoing AI skill development (e.g., prompt/context engineering, agent orchestration) and staying current with emerging AI technologies

$219,000/year to $301,000/year + bonus + equity + benefits
