**Responsibilities**
The Manager of Clinical Documentation Integrity (CDI) - Rapid Response & Float Pool is responsible for the strategic and operational leadership of two critical system-level CDI teams. This role oversees the Rapid Response team, which addresses urgent documentation, audit, or compliance issues, and the Float Pool team, which provides expert coverage across multiple Ascension markets. The manager ensures efficient deployment of resources, maintains high-quality documentation review standards, and supports continuity of CDI operations across a dynamic and evolving healthcare landscape. This position plays a pivotal role in cross-functional collaboration, emergent issue resolution, and workforce readiness across inpatient clinical documentation programs.
**Key Responsibilities:**
**Rapid Response Leadership:**
+ Lead a team of senior CDI professionals dedicated to emergent documentation needs, including audit support, DRG risk mitigation, payer denial trends, and high-impact case reviews.
+ Coordinate real-time assignments for system-priority issues such as query escalation, mortality reviews, and outlier identification.
+ Collaborate with CDI leadership, compliance, quality, and revenue integrity teams to triage and resolve urgent concerns.
+ Track trends in Rapid Response requests and develop process improvements or educational follow-ups based on root causes.
**Float Pool Management:**
+ Direct deployment of float pool staff to cover PTO, vacancies, leave of absence, or census surges across Ascension markets.
+ Ensure proper credentialing, access, and training for float staff across multiple facilities, EHR systems, and CDI platforms.
+ Monitor performance, documentation quality, and adaptability of float staff in various assignments.
+ Align float coverage plans with CDI leadership based on staffing projections and system demands.
**People Management & Operations:**
+ Recruit, onboard, and mentor a highly skilled team of senior-level CDS professionals.
+ Conduct regular performance evaluations, coaching sessions, and goal setting for both Rapid Response and Float Pool team members.
+ Maintain a centralized deployment calendar, escalation protocols, and resource allocation tools.
+ Collaborate with regional CDI managers and directors to ensure alignment with local documentation workflows and priorities.
+ Monitor team productivity and quality metrics and report performance to system leadership.
+ Support continuing education and cross-training for team members to enhance versatility and readiness.
**Requirements**
**Licensure / Certification / Registration:**
+ One or more of the following required:
+ Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) credentialed from the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA) obtained prior to hire date or job transfer date.
+ Certified Professional Coder (CPC) credentialed from the American Academy of Professional Coders (AAPC) obtained prior to hire date or job transfer date.
+ Registered Nurse obtained prior to hire date or job transfer date.
+ Reg Health Info Admnstr credentialed from the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA) obtained prior to hire date or job transfer date.
+ Reg Health Info Tech credentialed from the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA) obtained prior to hire date or job transfer date.
+ Clinical Documentation Professional (CCDS) credentialed from the Association of Clinical Documentation Integrity Specialists (ACDIS) obtained prior to hire date or job transfer date.
**Education:**
+ High School diploma equivalency with 3 years of cumulative experience OR Associate's degree/Bachelor's degree with 2 years of cumulative experience OR 7 years of applicable cumulative job specific experience required.
+ 3 years of leadership or management experience preferred.
**Additional Preferences**
+ Deep understanding of clinical documentation standards, coding systems (ICD-10-CM/PCS), DRG methodologies (MS-DRG, APR-DRG), and quality reporting (SOI/ROM, PSI/HAC).
+ Excellent project management and triage skills with a calm, strategic response to urgent or high-risk scenarios.
+ Strong organizational and deployment-planning abilities across multiple geographies and service lines.Advanced proficiency in EHR and CDI tools (Epic, Cerner, 3M, Nuance) and collaboration software (Teams, Excel/Sheets).
+ Exceptional interpersonal skills, with the ability to build trust quickly across diverse clinical, administrative, and technical teams.
+ High emotional intelligence and adaptability to lead through rapid change and high-stakes situations.
