Job Description

The Department of Pediatrics at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center (MSK kids) is seeking a pediatric oncologist with a joint appointment to the Soldi Tumor Service and the Pediatric Translational Medicine Program (PTMP). We are actively seeking physicians that are BE/BC in pediatrics and pediatric hematology/oncology interested in an academic career developing clinical strategies and leading translational research for pediatric solid tumors such as sarcomas, rare tumors and other high risk malignancies.

MSK Kids has an outstanding reputation for clinical excellence, disease focused expertise and treatment innovation. The faculty member would work with experts from within and outside the sarcoma service to bring the best ideas forward for solid tumor patients including collaboration with large surgical, radiology, radiation oncology and pathology teams that provide unequalled care to patients and share in the research mission with prolific publications and grants. The faculty member would have access to and contribute to a large portfolio of clinical trials and collaborate with our outstanding scientists. The Lisa and Scott Stuart Center for Adolescent and Young Adult Cancers also provides a unique opportunity for collaboration with Medical Oncologists in the Adult Sarcoma Department, sharing an electronic medical record, IRB database, and access to clinical trials across the enterprise.

The PTMP is a comprehensive program developed to integrate and oversee state-of-the-art diagnostics, translational research and biobanking efforts, and a cross-histology early phase therapeutics portfolio across the MSKCC Department of Pediatrics. As a faculty member of the PTMP, this physician would help lead translational research initiatives such as the development of clinical whole genome sequencing and transcriptomic platforms and cell-free DNA based biomarker studies. The faculty member would also have the opportunity to participate on the PTMP Clinical Trials Service. The trial portfolio within the service consists of innovative early phase trials which are predominantly focused on targets and pathways (ie: via genomic sequencing or antigen expression profiling) which allow enrollment of varying tumor histologies.

This search is open to candidates at all levels of career experience and appointments will be made at an academic level commensurate with the appointee’s experience.

As a member of the Sarcoma Service you will have the responsibility for:

+ Development and implementation of clinical trials for patients with solid tumors

+ Translational of preclinical data from MSK translational laboratories to the clinic through Investigator Initiated Clinical Trials

+ Liaising with co-operative groups, consortia and pharmaceutical companies to initiate and implement clinical trials for patients

+ Develop correlative science inclusive but not limited to model generation, serials assessments of response and resistance, and pharmacodynamics

+ Direct patient care for patients with solid tumors

+ Supervising and managing clinical trial portfolio

+ Working with strong team of NP’s

+ 1 day per week in outpatient practice

+ Academic activities including

+ translational research

+ publications

+ education of fellows, residents and staff

+ Participation in departmental activities, including provision of inpatient care on a rotational basis (4-6 weeks) with oncology faculty in the department.

As a member of the Pediatric Translational Medicine Program you will have the responsibility for:

+ Participation in department wide translational research activities including

+ Oversight of clinical and research tumor profiling efforts including whole genome and transcriptome sequencing

+ Oversight of departmental biobanking and preclinical modeling efforts

+ Academic activities including

+ Genomically based translational research and publications

+ Co-leading departmental molecular tumor boards

+ Education of fellows, residents and staff

Candidate Characteristics:

+ Ability to anticipate cancer behavior and approach cancer heterogeneity in innovative ways

+ Ability to work in a team environment of care providers, researchers, administration and data managers

+ Experience in translational research

+ Experience in design and implementation of clinical trials

Requirements:

+ Applicants must possess a full and unrestricted license to practice medicine in the State of New York (or must be licensed in another jurisdiction and be eligible for licensure in New York and New Jersey).

+ They must possess a Doctor of Medicine (MD), Osteopathy (DO) or

+ Board-certified in Pediatrics and or Board-eligible or certified in Pediatric Hematology/Oncology.

+ Eligible for appointment ranging from Assistant to Associate

Physician compensation is based on multiple variables. This range represents annual salary only and does not include supplemental performance-based pay or any one-time payments that eligible candidates may be offered at the time of hire.
