Senior Manager, Safety and Loss Prevention

Our Opportunity:

Chewy is hiring a Senior Manager  of Safety   & Loss Prevention to help support the growth of our business within Fulfillment Operations. The job of the Senior Manager of Safety is to develop and execute a comprehensive safety program ensuring compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations.  This leader will have experience in lean principles, continuous improvement efforts and using data to assess risk, drive ongoing improvements and reduce conditional and ergonomic risks within our fulfillment centers. This leader must demonstrate the ability to build trust and influence change with the associates and operations leadership teams.  The Associate Director of Safety must be able to communicate well both verbally and in writing to drive clear and consistent direction for the safety program.  This role includes development and oversight of the safety teams across the network, but also requires the ability to teach, mentor, and guide the operations leadership teams to execute company policy, identify best practices and implement those best practices throughout the fulfillment center network.  We are looking for a dynamic leader that will lead from the front and is passionate to the core about warehouse operations and cares about keeping our associates and teams safe. 

What you'll do:   

+ Serve as designated safety leader for network fulfillment coordinating and implementing all areas of the Safety Program.

+ Ensure compliance with corporate Safety Program expectations and applicable federal and state law.

+ Knowledge of OSHA, and local and regional regulations.

+ Identifies legal requirements and government reporting regulations affecting safety management and ensures that company policies, procedures and reporting are in compliance

+ Ensures site safety teams maintain the OSHA 300 logs keeping them in order and up to date, posting when required. 

+ Accurate determination and reporting of Lost Time Incident Rates and Recordable Rates and the ability to mitigate future risk to continuously reduce rates.

+ Develop metrics and reports to help quantify and measure safety performance and opportunities and leverage data to develop safety policies.

+ Measure sites’ performance against published requirements in safety policies. For all deficiencies, identify a plan for the site to implement and fix all identified deficiencies.

+ Conduct training and coach teams from leaders to associates on observed work habits.

+ Identify and drive resolution to compliance issues, safety risks and improvement opportunities through the network conduct of daily, weekly and monthly audit programs.

+ Oversee and conduct risk assessments related to jobs performed (Job Hazard Analysis) and new equipment introductions. Recommend appropriate risk mitigation measures to management, including ergonomic considerations, in all such efforts.

+ Oversee the incident investigation process, including near-misses, unsafe acts or unsafe conditions.

+ Ensure site safety teams input Safety Incident Information into reporting systems in a timely manner.

+ Reviews and takes measures to eliminate ergonomic issues.

+ Improve and standardize methods for site root cause analysis and oversight of investigations.

+ Train and develop the site safety teams to ensure a high level of operational support as it relates to the safety space.  Build partnerships with operations teams to complete their Safety responsibilities and champion the safety program at all sites (Audits, Follow Safety Rules, and Continuous improvement).

+ Maintains relationships with outside consultants, vendors, employment agencies, professional associations and Federal and State government agencies such as Occupational Safety and Health Administration and the Environmental Protection Agency

+ Ability to drive a safety culture that is world class by increasing employee engagement, accountability, and network programs.

+ Develop, oversee, and manage network safety related training classes and programs including Forklift Safety and certifications.

What you'll need:

+ Bachelor’s degree in safety, environmental, ergonomics or a related field required, or 10+ years of relevant work experience

+ Ability to analyze accident data, new processes, and machinery for potential safety concerns and conduct job hazard and job safety analysis

+ Experience leading and managing a team with multiple direct reports.

+ Able to maintain confidentiality in matters involving personnel issues

+ Previous experience in a distribution center, manufacturing environment, or e-commerce fulfillment.

+ Proficiency in Microsoft Office

+ Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including comfort interfacing with site leaders.

+ Ability to develop and implement network, site, and department goals and strategies.

+ Strong analytical skills with demonstrated problem solving ability.

+ Strong communication, teamwork, good judgment, and strong customer focus

Bonus:   

+ Certified Safety Professional

+ Ability to adapt well to fast-paced environments with changing circumstances, direction, and strategy.

+ Experienced in emergency response and be able to maintain or oversee current First aid and CPR certificates.

+ Experience in Worker’s Compensation case management is a plus.
