**Responsibilities**

Perform forensic examinations of individuals who have been sexually assaulted and provide related patient care and referrals.

+ Take a medical history and account of the assault from the patient. Assess the patient's psychological condition and perform physical examination.

+ Collect and preserve all evidence, collect relevant specimens and document findings.

+ Provide direct nursing care of injuries and prophylactic medications. Refer to appropriate personnel/facility for further treatment as necessary.

+ Communicate with victims and their families regarding evidence collection, treatment recommendations and reporting to law enforcement (except in cases of mandated reporting). Provide victim advocacy and/or expert testimony in court trials.

**Requirements**

Licensure / Certification / Registration:

+ BLS Provider obtained within 1 Month (30 days) of hire date or job transfer date required. American Heart Association or American Red Cross accepted.

+ Registered Nurse obtained prior to hire date or job transfer date required.

+ Certification specializing in Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner preferred.

Education:

+ Diploma from an accredited school/college of nursing required. Completion of Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner training SANE-A within 12 months and completion of Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner training SANE-P within 16 months, if applicable.
