Senior Electrical Engineer - Space

**Job Description**

Due to continued growth, BAE Systems has an opening for a Senior Electrical Engineer in Hudson, NH. BAE Systems is one of the world's leading defense contractors and a stable Fortune 500 Company. This specific opening is within our Space Systems product line. BAE Systems Space Systems product line has a long heritage of premier Space Electronics providing payloads, boxes, and single board computers to our customers dating back to the 90s. Our product line has supported Radiation Hardened processors for both satellites as well as extraterrestrial missions including all of the Mars Rovers. This specific role would be within our Secure Communications product area within Space Systems out of our Hudson, NH facility.

The position will be expected to perform all aspects of electrical design, under mentorship and guidance from an experienced engineering team, spanning from taking a requirements document and Systems block/architecture diagram and designing a solution. Our primary board design suite is within Cadence. Our products primarily range from computer test racks, circuit card assemblies, chassis to hold our circuit card assemblies, environmental fixtures, and optical assemblies. The fidelity of the systems varies from benchtop or prototyping equipment up to the flight equipment used in the satellites. Within an optical assembly, there are numerous mechanical components ranging from brackets, mounts, rotating fixtures, optical lenses, gimbals, etc.

There are several large programs within our Secure Communications product area and this role would be assigned tasks across these programs as well as research and design to support future work for this customer set as well as for any new customers. Most of the programs are long-term programs and involve different stages of design and production support. This role will work with a larger team across Engineering and Operations including roles such as Mechanical Engineers Mechanical Analysts, Systems Engineers, Software Engineers, Test Engineers, Program Engineering Managers, Manufacturing Engineers, and New Product Introduction Engineers. Due to the customer base and missions, the role requires eligibility to obtain a Secret Clearance. Prior Space experience is desired, but not a requirement. This role is intended to be for a Junior to Mid-Level engineer and will support the career growth of the selected candidate. The knowledge base of the product line will come with experience in the role.

The board design tasks will entail carrying board designs through component selection, PCB stackup, creating symbols and footprints, schematic capture, layout/placement, and routing. Our boards/systems include many different types of signals varying from digital, analog, and optical. The PCBs often contain FPGAs as well as optical components/connectors. Experience with VITA/SpaceVPX standards is recommended, but not required. Our designs often have numerous cards talking together within a box. So experience designing backplanes and with cabling is helpful, but not required.

**Required Education, Experience, & Skills**

+ Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering (or similar field) and a minimum of four years' applicable experience

+ Electrical design experience

+ Experience working on larger Engineering teams

+ Ability to mentor and willingness to be mentored

+ Strong debug and problem-solving skills

+ Ability to obtain and maintain a Secret Security Clearance

**Preferred Education, Experience, & Skills**

+ Electrical design experience supporting backplanes and cabling

+ Optical design experience

+ Space design experience

+ Experience using Cadence

+ Advanced degree in Electrical Engineering

+ Experience in hardware design, process, and hands-on lab debug

+ Strong written and oral communication skills

+ Self-starter and a good team player

**Pay Information**

Full-Time Salary Range: $97008 - $164914

Please note: This range is based on our market pay structures. However, individual salaries are determined by a variety of factors including, but not limited to: business considerations, local market conditions, and internal equity, as well as candidate qualifications, such as skills, education, and experience.
