JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

A Research Technologist position is available in the Fox Lab in the Department of Anesthesiology and Perioperative Medicine at the Penn State College of Medicine, in Hershey, PA. This position offers the opportunity to be part of a research team focused on studying the molecular mechanisms underlying opioid use and stress disorders.

The primary duties and responsibilities include performing experiments, recording and analyzing data, routine mouse husbandry, and ordering lab supplies. The Technologist will be expected to work with graduate students/postdocs and contribute to studies assessing the effects of misused substances and/or social stress on behavior and brain reward circuits. The position requires extensive mouse handling and involves performing surgical procedures and collecting tissue samples. The studies use behavioral models (e.g. drug self-administration, social defeat), genetic, and molecular biological techniques (e.g.in situ hybridization, immunohistochemistry, virus-medicated gene manipulations, qPCR, etc.)

The candidate should be comfortable working with animals, familiar with standard biological laboratory research techniques (e.g. PCR, gel electrophoresis), and motivated to learn new techniques and approaches. The successful candidate will be detail oriented with excellent time management and fine motor skills, and the ability to follow instructions and work independently. Animal handling experience is required. It is preferred that the candidate will have a bachelor’s degree in biology, Molecular Biology, Neuroscience, or a related field, with some prior research experience. Some experience with rudimentary data management is essential. A high level of technical aptitude is preferred, as most projects require extensive use of computers, data management software, and electronic devices. This position requires a Bachelor's Degree and a 1+ years of relevant experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

This is a limited-term position funded for one year from date of hire, with possibility of refunding.

The salary range for this position, including all possible grades is:

$38,300.00 - $55,500.00
