Surgical Technologists play a critical role in supporting surgical procedures under the supervision of surgeons and registered nurses while ensuring the delivery of safe, high-quality patient care throughout the operative experience. In this role, you will maintain a sterile environment and provide essential procedural support before, during, and after surgery to promote optimal surgical outcomes.
Responsibilities include preparing and organizing surgical supplies and equipment, setting up sterile fields and instrument tables, performing surgical counts, draping patients and sterile areas, and anticipating the needs of the surgical team during procedures. Surgical Technologists also assist by passing instruments and supplies during surgery, preparing sterile dressings, and ensuring instruments and equipment are properly cleaned and prepared for terminal sterilization in accordance with safety and infection prevention standards.
**This caregiver role is a day shift position with required on-call coverage.**
**During the 3-month orientation period, the schedule is Monday-Friday, from 7am-3:30pm**
**The required on-call rotation includes:**
**-Two call shifts per month (weeknight or weekend)**
**-One to two holidays per year**
**The Main Campus call response time is one hour**
A caregiver who excels in this role will:
+ Set up the sterile table and ensure appropriate supplies, drugs and equipment are available.
+ Assists RN in counting all sponges, instruments, etc. at appropriate times during surgery.
+ Assist in gowning and gloving surgical team members and draping patients.
+ Ensure aseptic condition is maintained by the scrubbed surgical team through the procedure.
+ Participate in the intraoperative 'timeout.'
+ Collect, identify and label specimens removed during surgical procedures and gives specimens to circulator for disposition.
Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
+ Completion of a surgical technology program accredited through the CAAHEP or ABHES OR completion of a military surgical technology program OR certification as a Surgical Technologist (acceptable certifications for this route are TS-C (through the National Center for Competency Training) or CST (through the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting)
+ Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross
Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
+ Certified Surgical Technologist
**Physical Requirements:**
+ Requires full range of body motion including handling and lifting patients, manual and finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination.
+ Requires standing and walking for extensive periods of time.
+ Occasionally lifts and carries items weighing up to 25 pounds and ability to push, pull, and navigate supply carts weighing > than 75 pounds periodically.
+ Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range.
+ Requires working under stressful conditions of working irregular hours.
+ Requires some exposure to communicable diseases or bodily fluids.
+ Medium Work - Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
+ Physical Demand requirements are in excess of those for Light Work
**Personal Protective Equipment:**
+ Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
**Pay Range**
Minimum hourly: $28.50
Maximum hourly: $39.00
