**Pay Range:** $53.73 - $84.63 per hour

**Summary:**
The Clinical Pharmacy Specialist, Emergency Medicine, provides direct patient care in the Emergency Department (ED), serving both pediatric and adult populations. The individual mus demonstrate maturity, independence, initiative, and strong communication skills while exemplifying the Rush mission, vision, and values and acts in accordance with Rush policies and procedures.

**Required Job Qualifications:**
+ Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy.
+ Illinois Pharmacist License.
+ Minimum of four years of Clinical Pharmacy experience OR PGY 1 residency completed within the last seven years, which includes Clinical / Specialty Pharmacy experience.
+ Knowledge in intravenous admixture services, intravenous drug therapy and chemotherapy.
+ Must be able to work effectively with others to provide safe and effective drug therapy.
+ Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently and quickly in responding to and resolving a wide range of problems.
**Preferred Job Qualifications:**
+ BLS Certification.
+ ACLS Certification (or shall be obtained upon hire).
+ Board of Pharmaceutical Specialties Board Certification.
+ Doctor of Pharmacy degree and residency certificate.
+ Experience and strong knowledge base in specialty drug therapies.
**Responsibilities:**
+ This position primarily covers overnight shifts (21:00–07:00) on a 7-on/7-off schedule.
+ Additional responsibilities may include coverage of intensive care units (ICUs), Central Pharmacy, and remote medication order verification for other EDs within the health system, based on departmental needs.
+ Weekend coverage follows every other weekend rotation.
+ Holiday staffing is required.
+ Evaluates and verifies medication orders in Epic for therapeutic appropriateness, dosing accuracy, optimal dosage form, drug interactions, allergies, route and rate of administration, and therapeutic duplication.
+ Clarifies physicians’ orders as needed through timely communication with prescribers or designated practitioners.
+ Provides patient-specific pharmacotherapy recommendations and drug information to medical and nursing staff.
+ Participates in emergency response activities, including cardiac arrest, respiratory arrest, and stroke interventions.
+ Precepts pharmacy students and residents (PGY1 and PGY2; including PGY2 EM program) in both clinical and operational areas, as assigned.
+ Performs daily review of pharmacy reports, including pharmacokinetic monitoring and other patient-specific or medication-related reports.
+ Documents clinical interventions using department-approved systems.
+ Provides discharge counseling and ensures appropriate follow-up of culture results when applicable.
+ Supervises pharmacy technicians involved in medication preparation and delivery, ensuring coordination with established workflows and schedules.
+ Coordinates medication ordering, preparation, dispensing, and administration processes for assigned patient populations.
+ Conducts monthly inspections of medication storage areas in assigned nursing units.
+ Implements formulary and medication-use policies established by the System Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee.
+ Participates in medication safety initiatives, including reporting of adverse drug reactions (ADRs) and medication errors.
+ Leads or contributes to clinical, operational, and quality improvement projects aligned with departmental priorities (e.g., automation optimization, workflow improvements).
+ Evaluates and interprets medical and pharmaceutical literature to support evidence-based practice and formulary decisions.
+ Collaborates with interdisciplinary teams to optimize patient care and medication management.
+ Serves as a liaison with other departments to support research, education, and quality initiatives.
+ Evaluates and monitors drug therapy in collaboration with physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to ensure safe and effective patient outcomes.
+ Collaborates closely with the Emergency Medicine medical residency program.
