**Job Description**

We are seeking a bridge engineer to lead structural analyses and designs for reinforced concrete, structural steel, reinforced masonry, and other metal structures ranging from basic to high complexity. This role offers the opportunity to take greater ownership of projects while continuing to develop expertise under mentorship, delivering solutions that meet client project requirements and advance your career in bridge engineering.

+ Lead and contribute to the development of comprehensive models, drawings, and specifications that drive project success.

+ Ensure designs meet or exceed federal, state, and local regulations through rigorous compliance reviews and quality assurance.

+ Coordinates designs with other engineering disciplines.

+ Ensures that firm policies and practices are followed on all designs.

+ Execute thorough structural condition assessments and conduct confined space entries to provide critical insights for project planning.

+ Drive thought leadership by developing white papers and technical design documentation that establish the firm as an industry expert in new and specialized design solutions.

+ Publish technical papers and designs in industry journals to advance professional knowledge and enhance the firm's reputation.

+ Partner strategically with sales staff to develop compelling proposals that win current and potential client requests for proposals (RFPs).

+ Reviews draft proposals for adherence to firm, industry, state, local and federal regulations and best practices.

+ Engage directly with current and prospective clients to understand their design needs and identify opportunities for innovative solutions.

+ May attend conferences, symposia, and industry events, etc.

+ to improve the visibility of the firm's bridge engineering expertise and services in collaboration with applicable sales staff.

+ Performs other duties as required.

+ Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior staff, fostering the development of tomorrow's engineering leaders.

+ Supervise junior engineers on project assignments, providing direction and fostering professional development.

**Skills & Abilities**

+ Demonstrate proficiency in engineering analysis and design software (such as RISA, SAP2000, or similar platforms) to deliver complex structural and bridge engineering solutions.

+ Knowledge of IDOT Bridge Manual, IDOT Culvert Manual, and AASHTO LRFD Bridge Design Specifications.

**Qualifications**

+ Bachelor's degree in Civil, Architectural or Structural Engineering or related discipline.

+ Certification as an Engineer in Training (EIT) or passing the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam in states where an EIT is not obtainable (within 18 months of hire or promotion or transfer).

+ 5 years of related experience.

+ Domestic and/or international travel may be required. The frequency of travel is contingent on specific duties, responsibilities, and the essential functions of the position, which may vary depending on workload and project demands.

+ Equivalent additional directly related experience will be considered in lieu of a degree.

**Preferred Qualifications**

+ Familiarity with IDOT standards and procedures.

+ Familiarity with AASHTO LRFD Bridge Design Specifications.

+ Ability to efficiently use MicroStation.

+ Experience with design software is a plus (MDX, OpenBridge, Leap Steel, Leap Concrete, CSI Bridge, AASHTOWare, LPile, etc.).

**Additional Pay Range Information**

CDM Smith is committed to fair and equitable compensation practices. This pay range is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels for the geographic location assigned to the position. In addition to geographic location, a candidate’s salary is determined by several other factors including, but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, relevant work experience, skills, required certifications, and education/training.

**Additional Compensation**

All bonuses at CDM Smith are discretionary and may or may not apply to this position.
