Engineer II - Materials and Process Laboratory

We are seeking a motivated Engineer II to support our contamination lab. This role will perform analytical testing, material evaluation, failure investigations, laboratory process development, and general lab operations.

This position is ideal for an individual with prior lab experience in chemical analytical testing, pharmaceuticals, environmental testing or other regulated technical environments who prefers hands-on technical work and problem solving. A successful candidate will have proven leadership skills that can be utilized to develop into a technical lead role within the lab hired.

**What You ll Do:**

+ Perform quantitative molecular and particulate contamination analysis and identification.

+ Conduct contamination sampling on flight hardware within cleanroom and laboratory environments.

+ Operate and support analytical instrumentation including FTIR and automated particle counting devices.

+ Interpret analytical data and assist in identifying contamination sources, cleaning methods, and material suitability.

+ Support investigative failure analysis activities using physical and chemical characterization methods.

+ Author and revise laboratory procedures, validation reports, engineering report, and other technical documentation.

+ Support onboarding, qualification, calibration, and troubleshooting of lab instrumentation and equipment.

+ Read, interpret, and execute technical procedures and specifications; maintain accurate electronic build records and logs in compliance with company and regulatory standards.

+ Implement EHS processes and procedures, recognize safety hazards, including hazardous materials.

+ Work safely with chemicals, cryogenics, adhesives, lab instruments, hand tools, and power tools in laboratory, cleanroom, machine shop, and production environments.

+ Accurately document and complete assignments in timely manner with minimal supervision.

+ Support continuous improvement initiatives related to lab capability, efficiency, and data quality.

+ Provide guidance, training, and task coordination for junior technicians/engineers as assigned.

+ Travel locally between campuses as required (Westminster, Boulder, Broomfield); Perform temporary and permanent duties at these locations as needed.

+ Ability to travel to vendor locations on an as-needed basis, including occasional short-notice and unpredictable travel.

+ Perform and support analysis in other laboratories including thermal testing, utilizing TGA, DSX, TMA, DMA, etc.

+ Operate and support other analytical instrumentation, including but not limited to GCMS, SEM/EDS, XRF, etc.

+ Support electrostatic discharge testing and compliance.

+ Environmental tests including vacuum, thermal cycling, elevated, and cryogenic temperature testing.

+ Mix, blend, apply, cure, and test adhesives, lubricants, and other specialized materials.

+ Conduct mechanical property testing at ambient, elevated, and cryogenic temperatures.

+ Support the long-term development of the contamination lab, including future opportunities for increased technical and team leadership responsibilities.

+ Maintain a regular and predictable work schedule.

+ Establish and maintain effective working relationships within the department, the Strategic Business Units, Strategic Capabilities Units and the Company. Interact appropriately with others in order to maintain a positive and productive work environment.

+ Perform other duties as necessary.

**On-Site Work Environment** : This position requires regular in-person engagement by working **on-site five days** each normally scheduled week in the primary work location. Travel and local commute between company campuses and other possible non-company locations may be required.

**Working Conditions:**

+ Work is performed in an office, laboratory, production floor, or cleanroom, outdoors or remote research environment.

+ May occasionally work in production work centers where use of protective equipment and gear is required.

+ May access other facilities in various weather conditions.

**Required Education, Experience, & Skills**

+ BS degree or higher in Engineering or a related technical field is required plus 2 or more years related experience.

+ Each higher-level degree, i.e., Master s Degree or Ph.D., may substitute for two years of experience. Related technical experience may be considered in lieu of education. Degree must be from a university, college, or school which is accredited by an agency recognized by the US Secretary of Education, US Department of Education.

+ Excellent communication skills.

+ Demonstrated ability to work with chemicals and equipment used in a chemical and physical testing laboratory.

+ Basic computer proficiency for data entry, documentation, and instrument controls.

+ Attention to detail and ability to work in fast paced environment.

A security clearance or access with Polygraph is not required to be eligible for this position. However, the applicant must be willing and eligible for submission, depending on program requirements, after an offer is accepted and must be able to maintain the applicable clearance/access.

As this position requires operating a company vehicle, an offer and subsequent employment are contingent upon possessing and maintaining a valid US driver's license and a satisfactory motor vehicle record review.

**Preferred Education, Experience, & Skills**

+ BS or higher in Chemistry or related engineering technical field plus 2 or more years of related experience in a physical or chemical testing laboratory is preferred.

+ Experience conducting analytical chemistry testing in pharmaceutical, environmental, industrial, materials, or similar laboratory settings.

+ Experience planning, leading, or supporting laboratory investigations and root-cause/failure analyses.

+ Demonstrated creativity and critical-thinking skills in troubleshooting complex technical problems and failure investigations.

+ Experience with laboratory quality systems, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and technical documentation.

+ Experience operating and maintaining analytical instrumentation.

+ Experience mentoring junior staff, technicians, or interns.

**Pay Information**

Full-Time Salary Range: $79365 - $134921

However, individual salaries are determined by a variety of factors including, but not limited to: business considerations, local market conditions, and internal equity, as well as candidate qualifications, such as skills, education, and experience.
