CDM Smith’s Boston-based Environmental Engineering team is growing, and we’re looking for a motivated engineer ready to make a real impact. This role offers the opportunity to work on complex, high-profile water and wastewater projects while collaborating with technically strong, passionate professionals who are shaping resilient infrastructure for communities.

In this role, you’ll contribute to the planning, design, and delivery of water and wastewater facilities and infrastructure projects from concept through construction, bringing technical excellence, sound judgment, and creative problem-solving to every phase.

What You’ll Do

Plan, design, and deliver water and wastewater treatment facilities, pipelines, pump stations, sewer and water systems, remediation sites, and solid waste facilities to meet client and regulatory requirements.

Prepare and review engineering designs, technical reports, and calculations, ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local regulations as well as CDM Smith quality standards.

Lead or support water quality analyses and modeling efforts to inform design decisions.

Conduct site visits, field reviews, and condition assessments to confirm that designs align with site-specific requirements.

Update and refine design criteria and technical approaches as project requirements evolve.

Collaborate with project managers, technical specialists, and discipline leads to deliver high-quality, coordinated designs.

Technical Leadership & Thought Leadership

Serve as a technical resource by providing guidance, mentorship, and training to junior engineers.

Review and oversee the work of junior staff, supporting their professional growth and development.

Contribute to the firm’s technical knowledge management (TKM) efforts by developing white papers, technical memoranda, and special-study documentation.

Prepare and submit technical papers and designs for publication in professional journals and conferences.

Client & Business Development Involvement

Partner with sales and project teams to support proposals and responses to RFPs, ensuring technical accuracy and adherence to best practices.

Participate in meetings with existing and prospective clients to understand their current and future infrastructure needs.

Represent CDM Smith at conferences, symposia, and industry events to enhance visibility and strengthen client relationships.

**Minimum Qualifications:**

Bachelor's degree in Civil, Environmental or Chemical Engineering or related discipline.

Professional engineering (PE) license.

7 years of related experience.

Domestic and/or international travel may be required.

The frequency of travel is contingent on specific duties, responsibilities, and the essential functions of the position, which may vary depending on workload and project demands.

Equivalent additional directly related experience will be considered in lieu of a degree.

**Skills and Abilities:**

- Knowledge of computer assisted design and drafting (CADD) practices.

- Knowledge of engineering principles of design. Principles of design include preparation of design documents for municipal bidding.

- Knowledge of Microsoft business software (Excel, Word, Etc).

- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

**Background Check and Drug Testing Information:**

CDM Smith Inc. and its divisions and subsidiaries (hereafter collectively referred to as “CDM Smith”) reserves the right to require background checks including criminal, employment, education, licensure, etc. as well as credit and motor vehicle when applicable for certain positions. **Pay Range Minimum:**

$100,194

**Pay Range Maximum:**

$175,365

**Additional Compensation:**

All bonuses at CDM Smith are discretionary and may or may not apply to this position.

**Work Location Options:**

Hybrid Work Options may be considered for successful candidate.
