Director, Category Management

Within Chewy, the Chewy Health team is focused on redefining how vets and pet parents care for their pets and are on a multi-year journey to build an experience that makes healthcare affordable and accessible for pets.

As part of this mission, Chewy Health is currently seeking a Director of Category Management, to join our growing and fast-paced Healthcare Services team. We have a unique opportunity to change the way Chewy partners with customers in a newly launched Chewy Health vertical to provide a WOW pet parent experience, and we are looking for an inspirational leader and builder who can build the strategy for and deliver results against Chewy’s goals.

In this role you will own the business growth strategy, category P&L, and continuously assess services and offerings to stay ahead of the competition for a new vertical. In addition, this leader has experience managing diverse ecommerce categories and teams in a highly dynamic business environment.

What You'll Do:

+ Scale a newly launched business vertical to several times its current volume

+ Create an organizational structure that will scale with the business

+ Own planning and delivery of all key P/L metrics

+ Lead high stake negotiations across the big vendors in a regulated space

+ Explore and launch the business in new channels to grow the business

+ Drive the product assortment strategy to maximize sales and new customer acquisition

+ Lead the team on managing our vendor partners and

+ Move swiftly to problem solve with vendors and internal teams to remove any barriers to growth

+ Work cross functionally with Merchandise Operations, Product Management, Tech, Marketing and Design teams to elevate the customer experience and drive business performance improvement

+ Development of long-term organization road map, career development, and recruiting plans.

+ Hold the team accountable for all deliverables via SMART Goals

+ Interject new insights and ideas for improving customer experience and improving financials while holding true to Chewy fundamentals

+ Position may require travel

What You'll Need:

+ BA/BS Accounting, Finance, Business, or related degree required

+ Deep understanding of retail (e-commerce is a plus)

+ 10+ years of relevant experience in sales, buying, account management, consulting and/or marketing

+ Proven negotiating skills in complex situations, influencing abilities and vendor management experience

+ Strategic thinker with a bias for action and ability to deal with ambiguity

+ Comfort level in pushing the limits

+ Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills; strong writing and speaking skills

+ Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects - prioritization, planning and time management

+ Proven analytical skills – ability to analyze large data sets to make strategic decisions

+ Experience with financial analysis and modeling

+ Extensive experience leading teams & cross-functional projects

+ Ability to think and react in a high-energy, fast-paced environment

+ Experience planning both seasonal and replenishment based categories

+ Ability to synthesize large quantities of and complex data into usable/actionable information

+ Track record of taking ownership and driving results in a data-driven, fast-paced environment

+ Entrepreneurial mindset with comfort in both early stage and corporate environments, with ability to launch and scale

Bonus (if applicable):

+ MBA preferred

+ Business and leadership experience in market-leading organizations; both in bigger organizations and a start-up businesses.

Compensation & Benefits:

The salary range for this position is $156,000-$288,500. The specific salary offered to a candidate may be influenced by a variety of factors including but not limited to the candidate’s relevant experience, education, and work location. In addition, this position is eligible for 401k, an annual bonus potential, new hire and annual equity grant.

Non-exempt hourly team members accrue paid time off (PTO) while salaried-exempt team members have unlimited PTO, subject to manager approval. Non-exempt hourly team members in Fulfillment Centers and Customer Service are also eligible for additional unplanned unpaid time off (UTO). Team members will receive six paid holidays per year. Team members may be eligible for paid sick and family leave in compliance with applicable state and local regulations.
