PATIENT CARE TECHNICIAN

Shifts: Rotating

The Patient Care Technician, CNA performs routine and specialized tasks in providing direct patient care under the functional direction of a registered nurse.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist the patient with changing/dressing.
  • Transports the patient by stretcher, bed, or wheelchair (this is a large part of the job)
  • Identifies abnormal findings that could adversely affect surgical and patient outcomes, including abnormal vital signs, Accucheck results, lab, EKG, and CXR results
  • Report all abnormal findings to the appropriate nursing staff.
  • Escorts patients to holding rooms.
  • Assists with patient changing, and removal of belongings such as jewelry, dentures, contact lenses, etc.
  • Verifies patient information.
  • Orients patients and families to the environment
  • Obtains vital signs.

Qualifications:

  • Current Maryland CNA certification
  • CPR certification - AHA, Red Cross, or Military Training Network accepted.
  • Six months of previous experience as a PCT, patient aide, or geriatric nursing assistant, or currently enrolled in a nursing program and has completed basic technician training in nursing.
