Sr. Technical Program Manager, Compute Short-Term Planning

Microsoft’s Cloud business is expanding, and the Cloud Supply Chain (CSCP) organization is responsible for enabling the hardware infrastructure underlying this growth including AI! The CSCP organization is responsible for traditional supply chain functions such as plan, source, make, deliver, but also manages supportability (spares), sustainability, and decommissioning of datacenter assets worldwide. We deliver the core infrastructure and foundational technologies for Microsoft's over 200 online businesses including Bing, MSN, Office 365, Xbox Live, OneDrive and the Microsoft Azure platform for external customers. Our infrastructure is supported by more than 300 datacenters around the world that enable services for more than 1 billion customers in over 90 countries.

Microsoft Cloud Planning (MCP) is the central planning function within CSCP focusing on forecasting, capacity planning, hardware demand planning, inventory buffer strategies, and Integrated Business Planning (IBP). MCP is responsible for effectively collaborating with Cloud Services development partners, deeply understanding business goals, translating those needs into useful signals that inform long- mid- and short-term capacity plans, and providing consumable feedback signals that help inform future plans and goals. The function closely partners with Engineering, Finance, Supply Chain, Data Centers, New Product Introduction Teams, and the other Supply Chain organizations to plan capacity and hardware demand.

The Commercial Cloud Planning team within MCP is chartered with generating an accurate and affordable hardware forecast and demand plan, which includes all Compute & Storage and all 1P Services and Appliances. We are looking for a passionate, high-energy individual who will lead and own the end-to-end process for forecasting, Capacity and Demand Planning for Comm Cloud Planning.

**Responsibilities**

Technical PM in this role will own process improvement and system transformation for short-term planning for Compute capacity. Primary expectation from this role is to simplify planning tools and system inputs. The goal is to ensure that optimal server capacity is available to support Azure growth and margin goals. You will partner closely with leaders across the organization and be responsible for high quality & accurate plans for rack deployments.

 A successful candidate for this role will leverage their technical, analytical, supply-chain, leadership, and communication skills to deliver innovative solutions that will transform the way capacity is deployed for our customers. This includes:

+ Serve as the primary focal point with engineering teams for all capacity topics

+ Trace customer level forecast signal all the way through an optimized deployment plan

+ Risk Detection: Develop end-to-end (usage forecast to capacity live) risk detection methodology and KPIs. 

+ Develop processes for risk mitigation actions at different stages of planning and deployment

+ Analyze systems data pipelines to align between S&OP and S&OE planning

+ Drive process automation for risk detection and risk mitigation

+ Operationalize and drive weekly and monthly metrics/business review for Short Term Planning

+ Drive continuous process & tooling improvements for short-term planning

**Qualifications**

**Required Qualifications:**

+ Bachelor's Degree AND 4+ years experience in engineering, product/technical program management, data analysis, or product development

+ OR equivalent experience.

+ 4+ years of experience in developing/implementing supply chain solutions for demand forecasting, capacity planning, operations management, and business planning processes/tools.

**Other Requirements:**

Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings: 

+ Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud Background Check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

**Preferred Qualifications:**

+ Proven technical program management capabilities and hands-on experience with building iterative tools for process optimization

+ Excellent communication and relationship-building skills; ability to effectively coordinate and collaborate with key stakeholders, resolve problems, and seek practical solutions

+ Proven analytical skills and knowledge in root cause analysis/problem solving and the ability to implement and drive corrective actions and efficiencies in a matrix environment

+ Advanced Data Modeling & Forecasting Analytics – Ability to build and refine models (using SQL, Python, or R) that simulate capacity demand scenarios, quantify forecast error, and provide actionable insights to improve planning accuracy.

+ Process Automation & Systems Integration – Proficiency in designing and implementing automation pipelines (e.g., Power BI) that integrate signals across S&OP and S&OE horizons, enabling real-time risk detection, variance tracking, and decision-making at scale.

+ Demand forecasting or supply chain planning in Cloud and/or high-tech hardware supply chain

+ Experience leading cross-functional processes / programs with key stakeholders, e.g., Product, Finance, Engineering, Operations, Supply Planning

+ Hands-on leadership experience moving fluidly from long-term strategy to day-to-day tactical implementation

+ Ability to successfully manage multiple projects simultaneously

+ Ability to lead in ambiguous situations and deal effectively with conflicting priorities and changes

+ Ability to get the best out of others

+ Proficient in business presentation tools (e.g., word, power point, excel); able to generate and/or mentor others to produce high-quality outputs

+ Proficiency in Enterprise Planning systems (such as SAP, Oracle, E2Open, etc.) and business intelligence engines (SQL, Power BI, Power Pivot, Tableau, etc.)

+ MS or MBA degree

Technical Program Management IC4 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $119,800 - $234,700 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $158,400 - $258,000 per year.
