JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

Penn State Lehigh Valley invites applications for a Lecturer /Assistant Teaching Professor of Biobehavioral Health to start Fall 2024, or as negotiated. This is a non-tenure-line, term, 36-week appointment funded for two years from the date of hire with an excellent possibility of re-funding.

The expectation is that the successful applicant will use traditional, hybrid, and online delivery methods as needed, and teaching assignments may require teaching day, evening, and/or Saturday classes as needed.

Biobehavioral Health is a uniquely multi-faceted program, which examines the space where biological, psychological, environmental, cultural, and global factors converge to affect health and wellness across the entire human lifespan. Successful applicants should have earned a master’s degree in Biobehavioral Health, Health Education, Public Health, or a related field at a minimum to be considered for the rank of Lecturer, a Doctorate to be considered for the rank of Assistant Teaching Professor. The successful applicant will teach introductory/advanced courses in biobehavioral health and health promotion per semester.

Commitment to high-quality instruction in a student-centered environment is expected. Interest in active and collaborative learning, the instructional use of technology, and hybrid and online teaching is an advantages. Significant professional experience in health promotion and health education at a community level and prior college-level teaching experience are strongly preferred. Demonstrated ability to work in a collegial environment with faculty and administration is required. Enthusiasm for working in a multidisciplinary environment is important.

Additional responsibilities include:

+ Advise students and provide career guidance.

+ Participate in campus, university, and community service activities.

+ Collaborate in recruitment and retention of biobehavioral health students.

+ Participation in professional organizations and in course development.

+ Engaging in scholarly, professional development and activities to stay current in the discipline is expected.

Education:

+ A lecturer or instructor should possess at least a master's degree or its equivalent, or be an active candidate for a terminal degree, in an academic field related to their teaching specialization.

+ The assistant teaching professor should possess a terminal degree or its equivalent in an academic field related to his/her teaching specialization; alternatively, the assistant teaching professor without a terminal degree should possess at least a master's degree or its equivalent in an academic field related to their teaching specialization; must have demonstrated ability as a teacher and adviser; and must have shown evidence of professional growth, scholarship, and/or mastery of subject matter.
