JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

We are seeking a highly motivated and talented Chemical Ecology Postdoctoral Scholar to join our dynamic Center for Chemical Ecology team. This position offers an exciting opportunity to conduct cutting-edge research in the field of chemical ecology and generate linkages between labs in the Center for Chemical Ecology or to pull new labs into the Center . The successful candidate will work closely with our team of scientists to investigate the chemical interactions between organisms in various ecological contexts under the supervision of Dr. Jared Ali, Associate Professor, Department of Entomology and Director for the Center of Chemical Ecology.

Responsibilities: Design and execute experiments to investigate chemical signals and interactions between organisms, such as plants, insects, microbes, or marine organisms. Collect , analyze, and interpret data using a range of techniques, including gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS), liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry (LC-MS), nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR), and other analytical methods. Conduct fieldwork to collect samples and observe ecological interactions in natural habitats. Collaborate with other researchers to develop and implement interdisciplinary projects that integrate chemical ecology with other fields, such as evolutionary biology, behavior, or conservation. Publish research findings in peer-reviewed journals and present research at conferences and scientific meetings. Mentor and supervise graduate students and research assistants in the lab. Maintain accurate records of experimental protocols, data, and analyses. Keep up-to-date with the latest research and advancements in the field of chemical ecology. Contribute to grant writing and seek external funding to support research projects.

Qualifications: Ph.D. in Ecology, Chemical Ecology, Biochemistry, or a related field, p roof of degree is required by the hire date. Strong background and expertise in chemical ecology, including experience in studying chemical signaling, defense mechanisms, or interactions between organisms. Demonstrated experience in using analytical techniques, such as GC-MS, LC-MS, NMR, or other relevant techniques for chemical analysis. Proven ability to design and execute experiments independently, as well as work collaboratively within a team. Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with keen attention to detail. Proficiency in statistical analysis and data visualization using software such as R, Python, or MATLAB. Strong written and oral communication skills, with a track record of publishing research in reputable scientific journals. Ability to work effectively in both field and laboratory settings. Prior experience in mentoring and supervising students or research assistants is desirable. A strong publication record and experience in writing grant proposals will be advantageous .
