JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

The Undersea Systems Office (USO) in the Applied Research Laboratory (ARL) at Penn State University is seeking a Part-Time Research and Development Engineer. This position will serve as a consultant through the development of complex systems, applying best practices in hydrodynamic analysis, control algorithm development, systems architecture and concept development, modeling and simulation, systems integration and testing.

Candidate Should Have Familiarity With:

+ Matlab and Simulink

+ Hydrodynamic analysis

+ Control theory

Responsibilities Include:

+ Advise the adaptation of control algorithms as they are ported into a new software architecture, and generalized for additional systems.

+ Oversee the development and design of modeling and simulation tools to test and verify control algorithms.

+ Guide one or more junior engineers in the tuning of control algorithms based on data collected from the field.

A Master's degree (Doctorate degree preferred) in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Systems Engineering, Software Engineering, Physics, or Mathematics is desired.

Previous experience with Department of Defense or Department of Navy is preferred.

Candidates selected will be subject to a government security investigation. You must be a U.S. citizen to apply. Employment with the Applied Research Laboratory will require successful completion of a pre-employment drug screen.
