The position of Lead Technician is within our Toxicology Laboratories located in Santa Rosa, CA. This role will instrumental in providing quality results to our clients.

This job description will be reviewed periodically and is subject to change by management.

**What you'll do:**

The main purpose of this role is to support laboratory customers and technical support staff by offering laboratory testing and services in the confirmation laboratory area and directions for testing in Positive Specimen Handling, Extractions, and LC/MS/MS lab.

+ Testing specimens, following all special instructions. If questions arise, stop testing and ask the supervisor or lead for instructions.

+ SME on at least three stations.

+ Interprets test results and examines for unusual characteristics.

+ Troubleshoots procedures that may have been compromised, thus determining the potential cause of unexpected results of routine tests.

+ Communicates with appropriate technical staff regarding testing schedule information, results, or unanticipated discoveries.

+ Redline documents and give supporting evidence regarding changes – work with appropriate technical staff on updates.

+ If new test methods are needed or updates to stations, work directly with the support team on changes or adding a new station.

+ Problem solves issues during testing, and aids support team during the investigation. Able to discuss equipment issues and product issues. Be able to address the complex interpretation of well-defined procedures and practices.

+ Solves a wide range of complex problems requiring advanced interpretation of generally defined procedures and practices. Selects methods and practices to obtain imaginative, thorough, and practical solutions to questions.

+ Maintains confidentiality in handling sensitive information or documents.

+ Communicate with appropriate technical staff regarding testing schedule information, results, or unanticipated discoveries.

+ Administer the flow of testing requests from logging in through filing and archiving.

+ Plan and organizes non-routine tasks with w/approval.

+ Initiates or maintains work schedule. Establishes priorities of work assignments.

+ Understands organizational structure and positions of key employees.

+ Maintains general knowledge of products/services associated with the area and employees involved with specific product lines and services.

+ Accountable for actions and results of testing. Responsible for area SOPs and compliance policies/procedures.

+ Completes daily work to meet established schedule with guidance from supervisor on prioritization of tasks.

+ Follow all procedures for quality and compliance.

**Education & Expertise you'll bring:**

**Required:**

Associate's degree in chemical or biological sciences along with at least 3 years of laboratory work experience (or an equivalent combination of education and work experience).

At least one of these years of experience should have been gained in an analytical toxicology environment utilizing LC/MS/MS and/or GC/MS instruments.

**Preffered:**

A bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Toxicology, Medical Technology, related or chemical or biological sciences, and at least 4 years of laboratory work experience.

**COMPETENCIES:**

+ Good written and oral communication skills with the ability to coordinate and direct the activities of other employees.

+ Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to plan, organize, and rally team members to complete testing daily.

+ The versatility to prioritize and handle multiple and sometimes shifting priorities to meet tight reporting timelines without compromising quality

+ The ability to read, understand and apply written Standard Operating Procedures.
