**Job Description**

**AECOM** is seeking an **Environmental Planning Intern** to be based in our **San Diego, California** office. The candidate may also support our other offices in **Orange** and **LA** . This position will support our Impact, Assessment, & Permitting team within our Environment business line.

_This temporary position is expected to begin May/June 2024,_ _with an expected duration of 2-3 months and estimated 30-40 hours/week (there may be flexibility to extend the hours or duration)._

The Environmental Planning Intern will support our Impact, Assessment, & Permitting team within our Environment business line. Currently, AECOM prepares environmental impact assessment for surface, air, and marine transportation; transit; water; power; oil and gas; and land development projects.

The ideal candidate will be self-motivated, have excellent technical writing and interpersonal communication skills, and be highly client service focused. Most importantly, the candidate must have a positive attitude and a passion for learning and developing their skills as a planner.

_The responsibilities of this position may include, but are not limited to:_

+ Assist in the preparation of investigation reports, assessments, permitting, and drawings.

+ Interpret and record data and conduct research and analyses.

+ Contribute to environmental documents and compliance processes.

+ Provide appropriate support to AECOM multidisciplinary teams.

+ Assisting in developing solutions for tasks which may include: comprehensive planning and elements such as historic preservation, environmental impact assessment, environmental permitting, resource agency consultation and coordination, land use, transportation, capital improvements, infrastructure, housing, fiscal analysis, public policy, and site planning/analysis.

+ Work under the supervision of a project manager or senior-level team member.

+ Ability/willingness to travel to job sites and perform field work as needed.

**Qualifications**

**Minimum Requirements:**

+ Candidates must be currently enrolled in a university program pursuing a Bachelor’s Degree or higher in Urban Planning, Landscape Architecture, Environmental Design, Historic Preservation, Architecture, Cultural or Natural Resource Management, Environmental Studies, Environmental Science, or a related field with the intent to continue after the internship, unless graduating.

+ Candidates must have completed two years of study in their university program.

+ Valid U.S. Driver’s License required to visit project sites, clients, and other AECOM offices.

+ As a condition of employment, selected candidate must pass a Motor Vehicle Records review.

**Preferred Qualifications**

+ Knowledge of federal, state, and local environmental and permitting processes and regulatory requirements (e.g. NEPA, CEQA, NHPA Section 106, Endangered Species Act, Clean Water Act, etc.).

+ Experience with ArcGIS.

+ Working knowledge of MS Office Suite as well as overall strong computer proficiency.

+ Highly motivated and accountable.

+ Strong attention to detail.

+ Excellent organizational skills.

+ Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

+ Excellent technical writing, research, analytic, and graphic skills.

**Additional Information**

+ Relocation assistance and/or per diem is not available for this position.

+ Sponsorship for US employment authorization is not available now or in the future for this position.

+ Travel of 10% is required for this position.

+ This position requires a hybrid work schedule which includes in office work in **San Diego, California** . The selected candidate must be available to work in **San Diego, California** on a scheduled basis.

Offered compensation will be based on location and individual qualifications. The expected range is $26.00/hour - $29.00/hour.
