Principal Software Engineer

We are called the "Identity Protection" team, and our mission is to protect and secure Identities for our customers at scale. We are a team of engineers who are mission-driven go-getters, and we dive deep into the trenches to solve some of the world's most challenging problems. We process several billions of signals every day across millions of tenants comprising of petabytes of data and serve insights out of them, that are leveraged by various teams to power their protection scenarios. A key leadership responsibility involves realizing our vision of building a distributed set of services based on a highly reliable data platform that enables protecting the identities of users, applications, and devices alike. We are looking for a Principal Software Engineer for this role who can design and mentor & guide our team of engineers to build this system, in order to protect the most important element in the cyber security landscape - the identity.

**Responsibilities**

We are looking for a committed leader, who is deeply technical, and has experience building and scaling distributed services and data platforms. Some of the core responsibilities include:

+ Design, build and maintain large scale data platforms that are consistent and reliable.

+ Deeply understand the signals and the ongoing threats and compromises and design systemic solutions to provide real time identity protection.

+ Collaborate across multiple teams and services transcending organizational boundaries within Microsoft to integrate protection scenarios and provide a holistic customer experience.

+ Adhere to and drive modern software engineering practices through design reviews.

+ Gain a working understanding of Microsoft businesses and collaborate with mentors and leaders to contribute to cohesive, end-to-end experiences for our users.

**Qualifications**

**Required Qualifications:**

+ Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, or related technical discipline AND 6+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python

+ OR equivalent experience.

**Other Qualifications:**

+ Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings: Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft background and Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

**Preferred Qualifications:**

+ Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 10+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python

+ OR Master's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 8+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python

+ OR equivalent experience.

+ Experience coding with C#, Java, Python or C++ Experience building large scale data platforms and/or analytical systems

+ Experience building scalable, efficient, and reliable cloud services

+ 10+ years of experience developing large scale distributed systems

+ Experience working across teams with multiple stakeholders

+ Hands on experience operating business critical distributed services, live site operations, and debugging production services.

Software Engineering IC5 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $133,600 - $256,800 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $173,200 - $282,200 per year.
