The Legal Services department at Kettering Health (KH) is responsible for assisting the Human Resources department in the management and handling of all labor and employment-related matters. Labor & employment counsel will be a member of the KH Legal Services department and report to the KH Chief Legal Counsel. Labor & employment counsel will manage all labor and employment-related legal matters and generally assist the Director of Legal, Regulatory and Compliance in the development and interpretation of organization-wide related policies, disciplinary matters, performance management issues, investigations, accommodations and reorganizations. Identifies and assesses legal risks and opportunities within the labor and employment arena and advises accordingly. Manages and drives strategy on pre-litigation and litigation matters involving labor and employment matters as directed by KH Chief Legal Counsel. Represents KH in matters pending before various government agencies including, but not limited to, the Ohio Civil Rights Commission, the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, the Department of Labor Wage and Hour Division and the Occupational Health and Safety Administration. Labor & employment counsel performs job duties consistent within safety, legal, and regulatory requirements as well as KH values, standards, culture and business practices. Counsel will demonstrate the highest level of integrity, business and personal ethical standards in all aspects of job performance.
Minimum Education
Undergraduate and post-graduate degrees, specifically a juris doctorate from an accredited law school.
Minimum Work Experience
Minimum of 10 years’ healthcare law and/or labor employment experience, with litigation experienced preferred but not required.
Must have a working knowledge of all applicable State, Federal, administrative, employment and regulatory laws
and general legal issues that affect a healthcare system.
Must be able to speak with, coordinate, provide guidance to, and lead management and healthcare providers
at all levels of responsibility throughout the organization, as well as all retained legal counsel.
Required Licenses
Must be a licensed attorney in the state of Ohio.
Must maintain memberships with local and state bar associations.
Must maintain memberships with state and national healthcare associations.
