Sterile Processing Tech II, Sterile Processing

Full time, 80 hours per pay period, Shift: Nights

Position Summary:

Under the direction of the SPD Manager, Coordinator, and/or Lead Technician, the SPD Instrument Technician 2 will be responsible for the proper decontamination, inspection, assembly and sterilization of surgical instruments and flexible scopes. The SPD Instrument technician 2 will operate processing equipment such as washer automation, washer disinfectors, ultrasonic cleaners, cart washer, sterilizer and AER. The technician will be proficient in instrument decontamination and assembly and will be aware of the sterilization methods available and which method is appropriate in correlation with the devices that are to be processed. The SPD Instrument Technician 2 will have computer skills, as it is essential to interface with the SPD instrument tracking system.

Minimum Education:

Must be sufficient to meet the standards for achievement of the below indicated license and/or certification as required by the issuing authority.

Minimum Experience:

Must have one (1) year surgical instrument or instrument technician experience. Knowledge of approximately 1500 surgical instruments and specialty surgical instruments sets required. Good oral and written communication skills. Aptitude for electronics helpful for trouble shooting preferred. Basic computer skills. Ability to interface with the SPM instrument tracking computerized system. Must complete and submit 10 hours of continuing education annually.

Licensure Requirement:

IAHCSMM (International Association for Healthcare Material Management) as a Certified Registered Sterile Processing Technician (CRCST) or CBSPD (Certification Board for Sterile Processing Technicians) as a Certified Sterile Processing Distribution Technician (CSPDT) certification is required.
