Patient Care Assistant- Senior Behavioral Health
Full-Time, 72 Hours Per Pay Period, Night Shift
The Senior Behavioral Health Unit (SBU) is a specialty unit that specializes in geriatrics with neurocognitive disorders as well as medical issues that may influence behaviors which need immediate treatment/ care. SBU staff members utilize a multidisciplinary approach to patient care and are trained to evaluate and understand types of treatment for patients with psychiatric problems such as dementia. SBU has a strong collaboration inside and outside the unit who work closely with physicians and families, respiratory and physical therapist to give a holistic approach to patient care. Staff will assist patients with activities of daily living, provide basic nursing care to non-critical patients and assists in maintaining a safe environment.
In our specialized unit the Registered Nurses are accountable for planning, organizing delivering and coordinating patient care utilizing the nursing process in accordance with established policies, procedures, coordinating care among patient/family, medicine, nursing, ancillary, and other team personnel. The RN acts as patient advocate and maintains current knowledge and standards of professional nursing practice. Provides nursing care through physical and mental assessments, laboratory testing, treatment plans and therapeutic treatments. Knowledgeable of a wide range of disorders; cognitive, emotional, developmental social and behavioral.
Position Summary: Functions as a direct patient caregiver performing tasks to assist registered nurses. Performs hands-on care, assistance with ADL's and specified technical tasks for a group of patients under the supervision of the Team Leader.
Minimum Education:None specified; will accept any combination of formal education and/or prior work experience sufficient to demonstrate possession of the knowledge, skill and ability needed to perform the essential tasks of the job, typically such as would be equivalent to a high school diploma or GED. Preference may be given to individuals possessing a HS diploma or GED.
Minimum Experience: Hospital experience preferred. Medical terminology a plus. Must be able to operate computer and possess excellent interpersonal skills. Must be able to read with comprehension, write legibly, and perform basic arithmetic computation. Must have understanding and knowledge of patient care which may be appropriately delegated to nursing assistants. Must successfully complete Covenant's orientation and Nursing Assistant in-house training program before being permitted to work with patients.
Licensure Requirement: Nursing Assistant certification from state of Tennessee preferred. CPR required.
