Department Secretary (FT) 36 hrs/week --Kingsport, Tn (HVMC)

SCOPE OF POSITION
The Department Secretary may support one or more individuals/departments in daily work including schedule management. 
Based on department of assignment, clerical responsibilities vary and may include:  Answer/transfer telephone calls, competency in the use of the department electronic medical record/database (input orders/information into computer), maintain and trouble shoot office equipment (copier and fax), order department supplies, create data/reports/minutes at defined frequency accurately, charge reconciliation, maintain department records, ability to multitask simultaneously.
If assigned to a patient care clinical department, responsibilities may also include:
Maintain assignments in computer applications (attach patients, assign pagers), assist patients through answering call lights, appropriately communicate issues to nursing team members timely, immediately notify nurse of urgent patient/resident needs, paging physicians/providers for healthcare team members,  clean and fill patient charts, stock patient care supplies at designated room storage location, scheduling patient/resident appointments and preparing required information to accompany the patient/resident, schedule testing/procedures, ensure data/results are entered into the medical record, complete insurance related documents if required.
Access to patient information may be provided to perform the functions of this position; therefore, the ability to maintain confidentiality is a requirement.

EDUCATION EXPERIENCE
High School Diploma or GED required.
Individuals who are at least 17 years of age, in the senior year of high school, and within 6 months of graduation where diploma is anticipated may be considered for clinical patient care department roles
Medical terminology knowledge is desirable.   Demonstrated familiarity with proper spelling and English usage is required. 
Computer/keyboard, typing, and telephone skill experience preferred.
Demonstrates positive customer service and effective verbal and written communication skills in interactions with patient/resident, visitors/family and health care team members.
