**Responsibilities**

Is a member of the Endoscopy team who provides care within Borgess Medical Center under the supervision and direction of a registered professional nurse or physician. The role which the endoscopy technician assumes depends on his/her basic preparation, specialized formal or informal education and clinical experiences. Technicians can handle, prepare and administer specified medications while under the direct supervision of a provider. Basic general orientation with independent competence is expected in 6-8 months. Skills for advanced endoscopic procedures with independent competence are expected in 18 months. The Endoscopy Technician must adhere to the educational and competency requirements established by BMC.

+ Display working knowledge and manual dexterity in the use and care of required instrumentation and equipment. Monitor and maintain appropriate stock levels of supplies and equipment in the procedure rooms and in the department.

+ Communicate all pertinent information, including findings, concerns, or ideas to the assigned RN in a timely and effective manner.

+ Basic knowledge of computer hardware and software required to complete activities related to patient care at Borgess Medical Center.

+ Demonstrate flexibility in staffing patterns.

+ Communicate changes in the patient's condition to appropriate health team members.

+ Reassure patient/assist with comfort measures.

**Requirements**

Licensure / Certification / Registration:

+ BLS Provider credentialed from the American Heart Association (AHA) obtained within 1 Month (30 days) of hire date or job transfer date.

Education:

+ High School Diploma or Equivalent (GED) required.

Work Experience:

+ Minimum of one (1) year endoscopy experience preferred.
