JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

The Penn State College of Medicine, Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology and the Broach Lab, in Hershey, PA is seeking applicants for a Research Technologist 3 to conduct research in the molecular mechanisms of disease pathogenesis, through the application of cell culture and genetic, molecular genetic and genomic tools. The successful candidate will conduct CRISPR-mediated genome editing of bacterial pathogens and culture studies exploring interaction of human cells with bacterial pathogens.

The successful candidate will work with the PI to design and perform experiments, which will involve genomic engineering, cell culturing, transcriptome studies and data analysis. Basic molecular biology methods and computer literacy are essential. Excellent organization skills, willingness to learn new techniques, and effective communication are necessary traits.

This job will be filled as a level 2 or level 3, depending upon the successful candidate’s competencies, education, and experience.

TYPICAL EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE for a level 3

7+ years related experience

Bachelor's Degree or higher; Master's Degree preferred

Or an equivalent combination of education and experience

This is a limited-term position funded for one year from date of hire, with possibility of refunding.
