JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

The Penn State College of Medicine, Department of Pathology, Division of Clinical Pathology and the laboratory of Dr. April Bobenchik, in Hershey, PA is seeking a postdoctoral scholar to begin on July 1, 2022. This post-doctoral scholarship is intended to train teach, and prepare the applicant to compete for CPEP (ASM) accreditation and board certification in medical and public health microbiology.

The applicant's skills must include experience and knowledge in molecular biology, cell biology, microbiology and immunology. The applicant will apply these techniques during on the job training in clinical laboratory procedures primarily utilized in a clinical microbiology and virology laboratories serving Penn State Health. Experience in microbial culture techniques, molecular amplification platforms I procedures and immunological assays is strongly desired. The applicant will be asked to apply basic science skills to clinically relevant laboratory procedures and clinically related research investigations in support of infectious disease diagnostic testing. The applicant will also be expected to assist the clinical microbiology laboratory in collaboration of ongoing studies and clinical trials of diagnostic tests and have a strong understanding of compliance and security of protected health information.

Applicants should have a working knowledge of Microsoft Office products to include spreadsheet and database analysis and possess good scientific writing skills. Applicants will be expected to work independently as well as be able to function as part of a multi-disciplinary team of clinical laboratory scientists, information management professionals, clinicians, infection prevention practitioners, commercial diagnostic partners, and basic science researchers. Applicants should have strong oral communication and writing skills to clearly present results for scientific abstract presentation and manuscript publication.

Applicants should submit a cover letter stating their interests and experience interacting with clinical microbiology laboratories, their CV and contact information for three referees to Dr. Bobenchik (abobenchik@pennstatehealth.psu.edu).

The applicant must be a PhD candidate with PhD awarded no later than June 30, 2022.

This is a limited-term appointment funded for one year from date of hire.
