Network Operations Engineer, Google Network Operations

Minimum qualifications:

+ Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, a related field, or equivalent practical experience.

+ 2 years of experience in telecommunications at carrier scale working with optical network infrastructure, transmission systems, layer2/3 routers, and data services.

+ 2 years of experience in telecommunications, OSP, ISP, AC/DC power systems, and relay rack/cabinet/cage construction.

Preferred qualifications:

+ Experience with optical network installation, maintenance and operation for service providers or large enterprise networks using, understanding, and navigating EMS and NMS.

+ Knowledge of outside plant fiber, issue identification, and maintenance.

+ knowledge of TCP/IP fundamentals, network routing protocols (OSPF, IS-IS, BGP, MPLS) and physical infrastructure (optical).

+ Understanding of ISP network operations or experience in enterprise/IT network infrastructure support.

+ Ability to employ good troubleshooting skills and creative problem-solving abilities under pressure.

As a Google Network Operations Engineer, you will be a key part of Google's life support system for ensuring the delivery of service to its customers. You will be responsible for Google's global production network. Working with other network engineers and teams in Google, you will help ensure the smooth operation of Google’s production network, supporting both optical and IP infrastructure. You will be at the event horizon of high severity network impacts, combining excellent troubleshooting, communication, and network management skills, to expedite problem resolution and act as a key point of contact between internal groups, vendors, and network peers.

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $93,000-$136,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. The range displayed on each job posting reflects the minimum and maximum target salaries for the position across all US locations. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. + Monitor network stability and performance, ensuring 24x7 operations and resolving service impacts as they occur.

+ Support Google's internal teams by troubleshooting service impacting issues involving the network.

+ Act as an externally facing point of contact to facilitate handling of problem reports and maintain relations with network peers and vendors.

+ Act as an internally facing point of contact to escalate technical issues and communicate network status.

+ Oversee and execute planned network maintenance work, minimizing impact to Google services.
