**A Day in the Life**

In this role as a **Materials Engineer II - Extrusion** , you will participate in projects/tasks to meet the operational objectives of our Extrusion department at Medtronic’s Danvers, MA site. You will be responsible for implementing innovations for continuous improvement and cost savings initiatives, as well as source new and improved extrusion and braiding manufacturing methods for their application and/or adaptation to flexible composite medical device profiles.

As the Materials Engineer II, you will:

+ Manage specific individual project schedules. Lead cross-functional teams on operations-based projects.

+ Order, implement and qualify process equipment and tooling.

+ Devise and implement cost savings proposals related to extrusion process and workflow improvements.

+ Provide process engineering support for production problems and development runs. Perform root cause investigation and implement corrective actions required as a part of non-conformance report.

+ Represent extrusion concerns at material review board meetings.

+ Author and institute written technical specifications through document control system for new and existing processes.

+ Deploy Lean 6 Sigma methodology to solve and implement production improvement projects.

+ Implement process refinements that will produce faster, shorter manufacturing cycles concurrent with the acquisition and turnover of equipment to keep pace with capacity requirements.

+ Seek out inefficiencies in the existing operation and device solutions that can be translated into tangible cost savings.

+ Work with development teams to incorporate new process and material ideas into new product opportunities.

+ Originate validation and qualification protocols as well as engineering specifications to transfer processes into production.

+ Investigate new applications to leverage existing technologies.

+ Collaborate with Team Engineers to develop product line extensions and new product concepts to release to production.

+ Perform and maintain rheological characterization program to shorten materials selection process and benchmark melt properties.

+ Source and acquire lab testing instrumentation to perform thermal and mechanical analyses of compounded resins and post-extruded samples.

**Must Have: Minimum Requirements**

+ Bachelor’s degree in Engineering and 2+ years of extrusion process/project engineering experience, OR, advanced degree with 0 years of experience.

+ Technical background in Plastics Machinery and/or processing

**Nice to Have**

+ MS in Plastics Engineering

+ Experience in a medical device setting

+ 2-5 years’ experience in an ISO13485/GMP environment

+ Six Sigma, Constraint Management and Lean Manufacturing experience

+ Documented success rate of new product launch contributions and/or completed capital projects managed on time and on budget

+ Proven success in Project Management

+ Capacity modeling

+ Team dynamic skills (communication, accountability, decision-making, feedback, meeting management, managing conflict)

+ DOE, SPC, FMEA, GMP, QSR

+ Computer literate

+ Strong statistical skills (basic and minimal advanced statistics)

+ Knowledge of statistical software

+ Technical writing skills

+ Verbal, written and presentation skills

The provided base salary range is used nationally in the United States (except in Puerto Rico and certain CA locations). The rate offered is compliant with federal/local regulations and may vary by experience, certification/education, market conditions, location, etc.
