The Opportunity:

The Regional Safety Manager will support the Central Region's facilities. The Regional Safety Manager should have a true passion for Safety and will assist WestRock leaders and their operations with implementing WestRock's Safety Excellence System, developing and implementing effective injury prevention programs, ensuring compliance with company policies, standards and regulatory requirements, leading incident investigations, training with hourly and management personnel, and conducting Safety & Health audits.

How you will impact WestRock:

  • The Regional Safety Manager will build partnerships with the field-based safety organization, working to build consistency throughout the division by providing functional/technical expertise to the site leadership and personnel, assisting operational leaders with meeting WestRock's goal of eliminating Life Changing Events, driving cultural change through influence, and building a stronger safety culture.
  • You will serve as an internal safety resource / consultant / partner to our operating locations with a service-oriented approach; leading multiple projects at the same time in a fast-paced environment - must be organized, able to work independently, capable of multi-tasking, and achieve results
  • Strategically develop and implement innovative safety initiatives and systems with emphasis on short and long-range planning / goal attainment to achieve world-class results
  • You will interface with and provide coaching to senior business unit leaders on all safety matters and facilitate maximum communication / information sharing among all sites supported
  • Conduct and/or follow-up on facility safety audits and evaluations
  • Stay abreast of technical advances & regulatory changes to assess impact on company operations
  • Develop and teach engaging safety training sessions
  • Assist with incident investigation, root cause analysis, system-wide correction action development / tracking, return-to-work, and Workers' Compensation case management
  • Track & report leading / lagging safety metrics and using this data to formulate continuous improvement strategies


What you need to succeed:

  • Must have minimum of 7 to 10 years of Safety & Health management experience supporting multiple locations in a manufacturing environment
  • Bachelor's degree
  • Safety-related training and certification (e.g., MESH, CSP, CIH) is a plus
  • Thorough knowledge of U.S. Safety & Health laws and regulations and International requirements desired, including OSHA, ANSI, and NFPA
  • Working knowledge of safety regulations for general industry (29 CFR 1910) is required
  • Must be willing to travel up to 85%
  • Strong technical / analytical, problem solving, influencing and project management skills required
  • Strong interpersonal skills, ability to establish relationships and influence all levels across all functions (management, line workers, government officials, customers, visitors, and other stakeholders) required
  • MS Office skills (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, etc.) required
