Chaplain

**Overview**

At CHI Health Mercy Council Bluffs patients are at the heart of our care. Our campus is designed to heal the body mind and spirit of every person in a more comfortable less stressful hospital environment. Our full range of medical services include a new pavilion featuring enhancements in heart and vascular care surgery maternity cancer care and diagnostic imaging.

**Responsibilities**

**Essential Key Job Responsibilities**

+ Provides pastoral/spiritual care to patients, loved ones, and staff.

+ Completes spiritual assessments and develops plans of care. Communicates with other care team members. Provides clinical documentation as required.

+ Provides site orientation, mentoring, and support to CPE Residents and Interns as assigned.

+ Responds to and initiates routine and emergency referrals in a timely manner.

+ Coordinates with the local religious community to ensure the patient’s/loved ones spiritual and/or sacramental needs are met.

+ Coordinates spiritual/pastoral ministry and bereavement care for those approaching end of life and at death.

+ Participates in interdisciplinary meetings with other healthcare professionals as needed.

+ Provides blessing/ritual/prayer for special events and day to day activities.

+ Educates and assists patients with respect to Advance Directives as

**Qualifications**

Required:

Completion of one unit of Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) or completion of one unit of CPE within two years of date of hire.

Knowledge of the Common Standards for Professional Chaplaincy and the _Ethical and Religious Directives for Catholic Health Care Services_ published by the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB).

Knowledge of applicable laws and regulations, i.e. The Joint Commission (TJC) standards and Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) regulations.

Preferred:

Bachelor’s degree

Master’s degree

Board Certified or certification eligible*

Three to five years of pastoral ministry or related experience under institutional supervision

Bilingual

*This certification requires a college degree, a master’s level theological degree or equivalent, clinical training in chaplaincy

**Pay Range**

$19.68 - $27.06 /hour
