Sales professional focused on the new business development of investment management services, retirement plan services, trust and custody solutions, and other institutional products. The Sr. Institutional Consultant leads a consultative, team sales process and possesses expertise across a breadth of institutional service products, including retirement plan services, investment management solutions, and trust and custody solutions. In the support of the sales process, collaborates closely with Institutional Relationship Managers, Institutional Portfolio Managers, Commercial Relationship Managers, and Corporate Banking Officers to provide creative solutions for new business opportunities for institutional clients.

Responsible and accountable for risk by openly exchanging ideas and opinions, elevating concerns, and personally following policies and procedures as defined. Accountable for always doing the right thing for customers and colleagues, and ensures that actions drive a positive customer experience. While operating within the Bank's risk appetite, achieves results by consistently identifying, assessing, managing, monitoring, and reporting risks of all types.


Growth-Achieve quantitative and qualitative goals to grow the business

+ Proactively execute on One Bank activities, including One Bank Meetings, pre-call planning, and post-call follow-up to win new business opportunities.

+ Drive business development sales process through self-generated leads and referrals via deep internal and/or external partnerships, developing and closing new sales, concentrating on assigned markets and client profiles. Focus is on the largest and most complex sales opportunities that provide significant revenue and margin for Fifth Third Institutional Services.

+ Assist in the development and analysis of pricing for all new business. Master an understanding of all pricing and profitability models in order to develop competitive fee proposals.

+ Assist in the development and analysis of investment lineups for proposals.

+ Continuously enhance and develop industry expertise for key buyer market segments. Stay current and familiar with industry trends, competitor products, funds, performance, investment trends and pricing.

+ Utilize marketing tools and research to identify, qualify, and support business strategies.

Client Experience-Deliver an exceptional client experience

+ Effectively communicate the Bank’s expertise in a broad array of institutional investment products, including retirement plan services, investment management solutions, and trust and custody solutions.

+ Embrace and advocate Fifth Third Institutional Services mission, value propositions and points of differentiation.

+ Expand external sources of referrals (COIs) by organizing and participating in industry meetings and briefings to promote institutional services products.

+ Establish and follow best practices to consistently engage internal and external referral sources.

Consulting Excellence- Be a trusted advisor to internal and external partners

+ Partner with Sales Support team and new business committees in the support of the business development process.

+ Coordinate review of all non-standard items with appropriate internal resources.


None. However, the Sr. Institutional Consultant is expected to assist in the orientation, training and development of the sales force.


Bachelor’s degree and eight or more years’ sales experience. Institutional or financial industry sales experience required.

Proven track record of success achieving sales goals, leveraging superior business development skills across a blend of self-sourced and referral business.

Solid sales foundation with demonstrated skillset including pipeline management, negotiating and finding creative solutions for client needs.

High level of knowledge concerning retirement plans including investments and financial markets.

Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills. Exceptional presentation skills.

Demonstrated exceptional relationship management and collaboration skills.

Ability to use software including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, CRM and related systems.


Normal office environment with little exposure to dust, noise, temperature and the like.

Extended viewing of CRT screen.

Travel requirement is approximately 25%, but can be more significant, per responsibilities.
