This position will require up to 20% travel as defined by the business (domestic and/ or international). The Preclinical Safety (PCS) organization within Translational Medicine provides world class preclinical safety profiling and assessment for optimal drug discovery, development, and commercialization with state-of-the-art regulatory compliance. PCS is seeking a key leader to establish successful leading-edge partnerships with all key external business activities seamlessly in support of the R&D portfolio within the hybrid (internal/external) business model. As the Head of Preclinical Safety External Partnerships, you will provide leadership to build new, and provide oversight to all PCS strategic partnerships within and outside Novartis through multiple avenues including Search and Evaluation, IMI, and key academic collaborations, to enable continued innovation in the preclinical safety space. Your main accountabilities will include but not be limited to: • Develop a forward looking integrated global strategy for nonclinical safety testing with respect to external CRO planning, to ensure future business continuity for the end-to-end R&D portfolio. A key feature will be partnering with Head, Translational Toxicology and Head, Mechanistic and Predictive Safety to balance the internal and external PCS business requirements seamlessly, for optimal portfolio support and consideration of academic partnerships for key investigative activities. • Establish and lead all strategic external collaborations for PCS including the detailed oversight of CRO relationships in a PCS hybrid business model setting with support from a PCS Alliance Manager and through successful matrix management within PCS and across the Novartis enterprise. • Partner effectively with Preclinical Business Planning and Operations (PBOP) Team to successfully operationalize the strategic business plan including external study planning, reporting, finance, drug supply and ensure seamless portfolio support for all preclinical studies. • Co-lead with PCS line function Head(s) all external collaborations to ensure business and scientific excellence are seamlessly integrated. • Enterprise oversight of the complete PCS external engagement landscape including pharma consortia and regulatory activities • Ensure seamless engagement of external collaborations with the core functional departments within PCS, to deliver state of the art end to end preclinical / translational safety experiments and interpretation across all phases of research and development in support of the portfolio • Actively promote and bring enhanced awareness of potential external opportunities to the PCS Leadership Team across all areas of the preclinical safety business. • An integral member of the core PCS leadership team, with shared strategic and operational ownership of PCS activities for the overall success of the global PCS department. • As a senior leader, you will also perform other duties as assigned by the Global Head, Preclinical Safety **Position Title:** Head of Preclinical Safety External Partnerships **Role Requirements:** Minimum requirements Education: PhD (preferred) or a minimum of a Bachelors of Science degree in pharmacology, toxicology or related biological science. Experience/Professional Requirement: 15 plus years in the biotech / pharmaceutical industry with an in depth understanding of the nonclinical safety business from research through marketing authorization. Languages: Fluent English (oral and written) Desirable Requirements: MBA. The pay range for this position at commencement of employment is expected to be between $222,400 and $333,600/year however, while salary ranges are effective from 1/1/23 through 12/31/23, fluctuations in the job market may necessitate adjustments to pay ranges during this period. Further, final pay determinations will depend on various factors, including, but not limited to geographical location, experience level, knowledge, skills and abilities. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, including a sign-on bonus, restricted stock units, and discretionary awards in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits (including 401(k) eligibility and various paid time off benefits, such as vacation, sick time, and parental leave), dependent on the position offered.
