**Big Data/Database Engineer**

55ip's Head of Quantitative Research & Development is looking for a results-oriented database engineer to design, develop, optimize, and oversee its research data platform. The ideal candidate has a background in designing and implementing effective large-scale data solutions. The candidate will be motivated, a problem solver, a team player, and an effective engineer, looking to make a significant impact.


• Build high-performance cloud-based data solutions to support research capabilities: back testing, simulations, machine learning, and other advanced analytics & algorithms.

• Implement, schedule, and oversee ETL & monitoring processes.

• Examine execution plans and performance tune queries.

• Collaborate with technical teams.

• Oversee the loading of data from vendor and internal databases.

• Monitor the system performance by performing regular tests, troubleshooting, and integrating new features.

• Recommend solutions to improve new and existing database systems.

• Offer support by responding to system problems in a timely manner.


• Bachelor's degree in information systems, information technology, computer science, or similar.

• Extensive experience with database technologies, architecture, examining execution plans and tunning query performance.

• In-depth knowledge of Structured Query Language (SQL).

• Database design/modeling experience.

• Extensive experience implementing and monitoring ETL processes.

• Knowledge of Linux scripting languages and Python.

• Experience working with investment data.

• Knowledge of Jenkins and scheduling systems.

• Knowledge of AWS and Linux.

• Previous experience implementing Big Data solutions.

• Knowledge of Hadoop, Spark, and similar frameworks.

• Knowledge of NoSQL and RDBMS databases including Redis and MongoDB.

• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.

• Exceptional problem-solving and critical thinking skills.

• Excellent collaboration and communication skills.
