Job Summary
The Surgical Technologist II will maintain advanced skills in the clinical arena. The Surgical Technologist II will have additional responsibilities to include maintenance of implant systems, instrumentation, equipment, and procedure preference information. Insures that all systems are available, complete, inserviced and in good repair. Facilitates room turnover, case flow, cost containment and financial reimbursement. The Surgical Technologist II assists in maintaining a safe work environment and performs all related job responsibilities. The Surgical Technologist II maintains clinical competencies as appropriate to the ages, developmental stages and special needs of the patients served.

Essential Functions
  • Assists in maintaining adequate levels of special supplies and equipment in the OR.
  • Provides education and consultation of systems/equipment and advises staff on proper use of instruments.
  • Maintains calendar of scheduled cases with posted information and notifies vendors of needs.
  • Checks schedule daily to ensure that equipment is available, processed, and in good repair.
  • Checks room prior to procedure to make sure set-up is complete.
  • Maintains scrub nurse expertise and functions as 'second scrub' as necessary.
  • Recommends additions, deletions and changes to procedures—input procedure/preference cards.
  • Initiates needed repairs or changes to instrument sets.
  • Conducts and/or schedules inservices on various systems for staff.
  • Maintains updated library of surgical protocols.
  • Employs standard precautions for all patients.
  • Assists in obtaining needed resources for procedures and facilitates communication and planning to increase confidence and continuity of case flow.
Physical Requirements
Must be able to lift 30-40 lbs. Requires frequent lifting of instrument sets and pushing, standing and walking 90% of the time. Flexible hours. May be exposed to infectious diseases/hazardous materials.

Education, Experience and Certifications
High School Diploma or GED required. Graduate of an accredited school of surgical technology. Certified Surgical Technician with two years experience in OR, or any combination of experience and education resulting in advanced knowledge, skills, and abilities. BLS for Healthcare Provider from AHA required.
