Responsible for performing EEG/EKG according to physician orders at a level which does not require direct supervision. Must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care for assigned patients. May require specialized skills and serve specific age categories, which may include adult, geriatric and pediatric patients from the neonate through the adolescent ages. The delivery of care at NSMC is based upon criteria that are appropriate for the age of the patient served, and includes aspects of care related to the psychosocial, cultural, safety and learning needs of the individual patient. Performs only those duties and care for only age-specific populations, for which competency has been demonstrated. To assume responsibility for designated areas or procedures as required to provide the professional maturity and leadership needed for success of the EEG department

Position Requirements:

  1. Licensure/Certification/Registration:
    Minimum: Training related to EEG field or OJT
    Registered, R-EEGT (ABRET)

    B. Education:
    This position requires a high school education or equivalent and be trained in EEG and EKG. Training
    should include EEG theory, Neuroanatomy, neurophysiology, basic electronics and practical lab experience. Should
    also have attended Evoked Potential training by a qualified instructor.

    C. Experience:

Minimum: 2 years experience with above diagnostic testing required.

D. Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

  1. Works cooperatively with the entire healthcare team.
  2. Maintain inventory and equipment service records.
  3. Enter patient charges daily.
  4. Update procedure manual.
  5. Patient scheduling and patient preps as they pertain to the operation of this area.
  6. Operation and care of all department equipment and supplies.
  7. Observe and practice aseptic technique.
  8. Maintain skills and understanding of innovations in techniques and equipment in EEG, EEG and EKG.
  9. Must be willing to become proficient and stay current with the department equipment and procedures in EEG.
  10. Communicates effectively in writing and verbally with patients, families, physicians and other hospital personnel.
  11. Practices safety measures in all patients care duties.
  12. Accurately and completely documents evaluation findings, treatment planning, goals, education of patients/ families, discharge planning.
  13. Patients may include individuals of ages from pediatric, adolescent and adult to geriatric. Adjusts assessment and testing based upon the age of the patient.
  14. Administers testing procedures in a safe and effective manner.
  15. Participates in functional improvement team, hospital and department inservices and other educational activities that help improve the goals and standards of care.
  16. Recognizes behavior or attitudes that interfere with effective team performance and initiates measures to resolve conflicts that disrupt high quality patient care.
  17. Adheres to Infection Control/Standard Precautions while performing all duties.
  18. Adheres to policies and procedures regarding patient rights.
  19. Follows all Hospital and Department Policies and Procedures.
  20. Maintains good attendance, as well as displays professional conduct and dress at all times.
  21. Demonstrates understanding of Hospital and Department safety and emergency procedures.
  22. Demonstrates competency for all standards on the performance appraisal.
  23. Performs additional duties as assigned.
