Job Description



Job Summary: Research patient accounts based on departmental policies and procedures in order to identify, based on predetermined regulatory criteria, appropriate payment options to present to patients. This position will screen for Medicaid and any other funding resources to determine eligibility. Will assist patients in completing Patient Financial Statements to apply for discounts available under the Health Systems' Financial Assistance policy. The Financial Counselor will provide patients with their estimated liability for scheduled services and will collect prior to or at the time of service. The Financial Counselor must be proficient in both the pre-registration and registration functions and be prepared to support registration staff as needed. The position is also responsible for auditing daily cash collections and the preparation of the cash deposit for submission to cashier's office.

This position will also have mobile-registration responsibilities for inpatient registration. The position will be full-time benefitted working Friday thru Monday 8am-6pm with continuous moving and walking using a workstation on wheels.

Required Education: High School Diploma or Equivalent

Preferred Education: Associate's Degree

Required Experience: Minimum of two years experience; insurance follow-up, patient registration, billing and /or collections in a hospital, physician's office, billing or collection agency

Preferred Experience: Minimum of two years experience; insurance follow-up, patient registration, billing and /or collections in a hospital, physician's office, billing or collection agency. Medical coding or insurance verification experience is a plus.
